પદ - ૩૩

કો’ તો વળી કહું એક વાત, સુણજ્યો સહુ મળી;

છે જો સાંભળ્યા જેવી સાક્ષાત, વા’લપે કહું વળી... ૧

જેમ નરદેવ¹ દઈને દંડ, વેરીને વશ્ય કરે;

લિયે ખાટી² તે સર્વે ખંડ,³ દુષ્ટ તે સરવે ડરે... ૨

તેમ પ્રગટી પૂરણબ્રહ્મ, સંતના શત્રુ હણ્યા;

કામ ક્રોધ લોભ જે વિષમ, તે તૃણ તુલ્ય ગણ્યા... ૩

સ્વાદ સ્નેહ મમતા માન, પાપી પારોઠા⁴ કીધા;

કહે નિષ્કુળાનંદ નિદાન, નિજ જન તારી લીધા... ૪

પદ - ૩૪

જેમ જીત્યા એ શત્રુ સમૂહ, કામ ક્રોધ લોભ લઈ;

સ્વાદ સ્નેહ મમતા મોહ, તે તો દેખાડું કઈ... ૧

કામ કારણે કઢાવી લાજ, ક્રોધે બોલી બંધ કરી;

લોભ ઉપર મહા મુનિરાજ, આવિયા ઝાડે ફરી... ૨

સ્વાદે સૌ એકઠું કરી અન્ન, જળ નાખી જન જમે;

સ્નેહે સંભારે નહિ સ્વજન, માનથી દૂર રમે... ૩

કાઢી રીસ કરી હડકાર, બીજા દુષ્ટ બહુ ડર્યા;

કહે નિષ્કુળાનંદ નિરધાર, વેરી એમ વશ્ય કર્યા... ૪

પદ - ૩૫

સારો શક્કો⁵ બેસાર્યો સુંદર, પ્રભુજી પ્રગટ થઈ;

નિષ્કલંક કર્યાં નારી નર, ઉત્તમ ઉપદેશ દઈ... ૧

કોઈ કાળે સુણી નહિ કાન, એવી રીતિ આપે આણી;

લોકમાંહી અલૌકી નિદાન, આશ્ચર્ય પામ્યાં પ્રાણી... ૨

બહુ સામર્થી વાવરી શ્યામ, કામ તે કંઈક કરી;

પછી પધારિયા નિજ ધામ, શ્રી ઘનશ્યામ હરિ... ૩

વાંસે રહ્યા વેરી વિપરીત, ખરે ખરા ખીજે ભર્યા;

કહે નિષ્કુળાનંદ તેની રીત, દેખી સાચું દાઝી મર્યા... ૪

પદ - ૩૬

વડું વેર વાળવાને કાજ, સાબદા⁶ એ સહુ થયા;

મોટા મોટાની લેવાને લાજ, તાકે⁷ છે તેહ રહ્યા... ૧

ઝીણા⁸ ઝાલવામાં નહિ જશ, માટે મોટાને જોશે;

કરશે દગો દેખજ્યો અવશ્ય, વેર વાળી વગોવશે... ૨

માટે સહુ રે’જો સાવધાન, ખબડદાર થઈ ખરા;

જેનું આગે કર્યું અપમાન, તે જાળવે નહિ જરા... ૩

એમ છે એ અનાદિની રીત, નવી એ નથી થઈ;

કહે નિષ્કુળાનંદ ધારો ચિત, સનાતન સાચી કહી... ૪

પદ - ૩૭

કૃષ્ણ પધાર્યા કેડ્યની વાત, શ્રી ભાગવતે ભાખી;

કર્યો અસુરે બહુ ઉતપાત, હરિનારી⁹ ઘેર રાખી... ૧

અર્જુનનું ન ઊપજ્યું કાંય, ગાંડીવ ઘણુંયે હતું;

તોય ન થઈ તેહની સા’ય, બુઢાપણ આવ્યું નો’તું... ૨

માટે પ્રભુ ગયા પછી એમ, થાય તેના સંશય શિયા;

સમા સમું¹⁰ રહે કહો કેમ, જેના રખવાળ¹¹ ગયા... ૩

માટે સમજી સર્વે સુજાણ, વચનમાં વળગી રહેજો;

કહે નિષ્કુળાનંદ નિરવાણ, કઠણ પળ આવી છે જો... ૪

પદ - ૩૮

નારી નજરે ન જુવો કોય, વિત્તની¹² તો વાત ભૂંડી;

સ્વાદ સ્નેહ દુઃખદાયી દોય, ઇચ્છા એની ટાળો ઊંડી... ૧

માન મોટો છે અરિ¹³ અજિત, સમજીને સંગ તજો;

ન કરો એ પંચની પ્રતીત,¹⁴ હેતે શું હરિને ભજો... ૨

આવો અવસર જાય અમોલ, પાછો તે પમાતો નથી;

તેનો તપાસી કરવો તોલ, ઊંડો અતિ અંતરથી... ૩

માંડી મૂઠી¹⁵ જુગટાની જેમ, જીત્યા તો જીત થઈ;

કહે નિષ્કુળાનંદ (તો) એમ, હાર્યા તો હાર્ય સઈ¹⁶... ૪

પદ - ૩૯

અન્ન ધન ગયે મળે અન્ન ધન, વસ્ત્ર ગયે વસ્ત્ર મળે;

ગયે ભુવન મળે ભુવન, દિન ગયે દિન મળે... ૧

રાજ ગયે આવી મળે રાજ, સાજ¹⁷ સમાજ સહી;

પણ ગઈ મળે નહિ લાજ, કહેવાની હતી તે કહી... ૨

લાજ ખોઈને કરવું કાજ, એ તો અકાજ ખરું;

મર¹⁸ મળે ત્રિલોકીનું રાજ, ઘોળ્યું પરહરો¹⁹ પરું²⁰... ૩

બેઠી બદલામી²¹ જેને શીશ, ટળે નહિ કોઈ પળે;

કહે નિષ્કુળાનંદ વસાવીશ,²² લખાય છે તે કાગળે²³... ૪

પદ - ૪૦

જોને ભવ બ્રહ્માજીની ભૂલ્ય, જન સહુ જાણે છે;

એકલશૃંગી સૌભરીનાં શૂલ,²⁴ પોથીમાં²⁵ પ્રમાણે છે... ૧

નારદ પર્વતની નિદાન, કીર્તિ²⁶ કથામાં કહી;

માટે સહુ રહેજ્યો સાવધાન, ખબડદાર ખરા થઈ... ૨

જેની પાસે હોય જોખમ, જાળવો તે જતન કરી;

માથે મોટા છે વેરી વિષમ, ખોટી નહિ વાત ખરી... ૩

રહેવું નહિ ગાફલ ગમાર,²⁷ માલ²⁸ અતોલ મળે;

કહે નિષ્કુળાનંદ વિચાર, કરવો પળે પળે... ૪

Chosath Padi

Pad 33 - 40

Pad - 33

Kahe to vaḷī kahu ek vāt, suṇajyo sahu maḷī;

Chhe jo sāmbhaḷyā jevī sākshāt, vā’lape kahu vaḷī... 1

(1) If you permit, let me tell you a tale. Everyone gather around and listen. It it worthy of listening to in person as I tell you lovingly.

Jem nardev daīne danḍ, verīne vashya kare;

Liye khāṭī te sarve khanḍ, dushṭ te sarve ḍare... 2

(2) Just as a king who vanquishes his enemies by punishing them and who seizes all of the lands is feared by all evil people...

Tem pragaṭī Pūraṇbrahma, santnā shatru haṇyā;

Kām krodh lobh je visham, te truṇ tulya gaṇyā... 3

(3) Similarly, manifesting on earth, God slayed the enemies of the sadhus - the adverse vices, such as lust, anger, and greed; but compared to his powers, they are as insignificant as blades of grass.

Svād sneh mamtā mān, pāpī pārothā kīdhā;

Kahe Nishkuḷānand nidān, nij jan tārī līdhā... 4

(4) Nishkulanand Swami asserts, “God saved his devotees by banishing sinners full of gluttony, ego, attachment, and affection for one’s relations.”

Pad - 34

Jem jītyā e shatru samūh, kām krodh lobh laī;

Svād sneh mamtā moh, te to dekhāḍu kaī... 1

(1) I will show you how (Maharaj) conquered that horde of enemies, including lust, anger, greed, gluttony, affection towards one’s relations, ‘My’-ness, and infatuation.

Kām kāraṇe kaḍhāvī lāj, krodhe bolī bandh karī;

Lobh upar mahā munirāj, āviyā jhāḍe farī... 2

(2) To conquer lust, Maharaj made his sadhus cover their eyes when they passed through public places. To conquer anger, he prohibited angry words. To conquer greed, Maharaj had the great munis (Mulji Brahmachari) defecate on money.

Svāde sahu ekṭhu karī anna, jaḷ nākhī jan jame;

Snehe sambhāre nahi svajan, mānthī dūr rame... 3

(3) To conquer gluttony, he had his sadhus mix their food and add water to it. To conquer attachment to relatives, he stressed that they should not remember their loved ones. He also warned them to stay away from ego.

Kāḍhī rīs karī haḍkār, bījā dushṭ bahu ḍaryā;

Kahe Nishkuḷānand nīrdhār, verī em vashya karyā... 4

(4) Maharaj became angry and contemptuously cast out (the above vices). (Seeing this) other enemies became extremely frightened. Nishkulanand Swami says, “In this way, he subdued these enemies.”

Pad - 35

Sāro shakko besāryo sundar, Prabhujī pragaṭ thaī;

Nishkalank karyā nārī nar, uttam updesh daī... 1

(1) Manifesting on earth, Maharaj set an excellent precedent. By delivering great sermons, he made men and women of spotless character.

Koī kāḷe suṇī nahi kān, evī rīti āpe āṇī;

Lokmāhī alaukī nidān, āscharya pāmyā prāṇī... 2

(2) He brought new practices that no one had heard of before. It was certainly a divine way of Akshardham on this earth. All were amazed by this new way.

Bahu sāmarthī vāvrī Shyām, kām te kaīk karī;

Pachhī padhārīyā nij Dhām, Shrī Ghanshyām Harī... 3

(3) Maharaj used a great amount of divine power and completed many tasks. After completing everything he came for, he left for Akshardham.

Vāse rahyā verī viprīt, khare kharā khīje bharyā,

Kahe Nishkuḷānand tenī rīt, dekhī sāchu dājhī maryā... 4

(4) Nishkulanand Swami says, “After Maharaj left, the hostile enemies (vices) were greatly provoked, and they burned with rage seeing the truth.”

Pad - 36

Vaḍu ver vāḷvāne kāj, sābdā e sahu thayā;

Moṭā moṭānī levāne lāj, tāke chhe teh rahyā... 1

(1) To take revenge, the enemies prepared to mount an attack. They are aiming to ruin the reputation of the great.

Jhīṇā jhālvāmā nahi jash, maṭe moṭāne joshe;

Karshe dago dekhjyo avashya, ver vāḷī vagovshe... 2

(2) There is no glory in capturing the small, so they look to the great. They will surely deceive and defame them. They will have their revenge.

Maṭe sahu re’jo sāvdhān, khabaḍdār thaī kharā;

Jenu āge karyu apmān, te jāḷve nahi jarā... 3

(3) Therefore, everyone be aware and remain cautious of them. (Maharaj) humiliated them (swabhāvs) in the past, so do not even slightly hold on to them.

Em chhe anādinī rīt, navī e nathī thaī;

Kahe Nishkuḷānand dhāro chitt, sanātan sāchī kahī... 4

(4) This is the eternal way, it is nothing new. Nishkulanand Swami says, “Listen closely for this is the eternal truth.”

Pad - 37

Krishṇa padhāryā keḍyānī vāt, Shrī Bhāgvate bhākhī;

Karyo asure bahu utpāt, Harinārī gher rākhī... 1

(1) The Shrimad Bhagvat has narrated what happened after the passing of Krishna. Demons kidnapped the wives of Krishna and kept them at their homes, harassing them relentlessly.

Arjun nu na ūpajyu kāy, gānḍīv ghaṇuye hatu;

Toy na thaī tehnī sā’y, būḍhāpaṇ āvyu no’tu... 2

(2) Arjun could not do anything to save them despite his powerful bow (the Gandiv) and despite he had not reached old age.

Māṭe Prabhu gayā pachhī em, thāy tenā sanshay shiyā;

Samāsamu rahe kaho kem, jenā rakhvāḷ gayā... 3

(3) After God has gone, what doubt is there that such things would happen? How can circumstances remain in order when their guardian is gone?

Maṭe samjī sarve sujāṇ, vachanmā vaḷgī rahejo;

Kahe Nishkuḷānand nirvāṇ kaṭhaṇ, paḷ āvī chhe jo... 4

(4) And so, all wise ones, understand and cling to God’s commands. Nishkulanand Swami says with surety that hard times have come.

Pad - 38

Nārī najare na juvo koy, vittnī to vāt bhundī;

Svād sneh dukhdāyī doy, īchchhā enī ṭāḷo ūnḍī... 1

(1) No one look at women or let them come into view. The talk of wealth is entirely obscene. Taste and attachment both the cause of misery, so uproot these desires entirely.

Mān moṭo chhe ari ajit, samjīne sang tajo;

Na karo e panchnī pratīt, hete shu Harine bhajo... 2

(2) Ego is an unconquerable enemy; understand that and abandon it. Do not trust these five.^† Instead, lovingly worship God.

Āvo avsar jāy amūlya, pāchho te pamāto nathī;

Teno tapāsī karāvo tol, ūnḍo ati antarthī... 3

(3) Such a priceless opportunity is passing; once lost, it cannot be regained. Evaluate this truth from deep within your heart.

Mānḍī mūṭhī jugatānī jem, jītyā to jīt thaī;

Kahe Nishkuḷānand to em, hāryā to hārya saī... 4

(4) One had closed their fist like a gambler (winning is not certain); if you win, you win. However, Nishkulanand Swami says, “If you lose, then so be it (you have to accept it).”

^†The five as mentioned are: lust, greed, gluttony, affection for loved ones, and ego.

Pad - 39

Anna dhan gaye maḷe anna dhan, vastra gaye vastra maḷe;

Gaye bhavan maḷe bhavan, din gaye din maḷe... 1

(1) Lost food, money, clothes, and homes can all be regained. If you lose a day, another will come to you.

Rāj gaye āvī maḷe rāj, sāj samāj sahi;

Paṇ gaī maḷe nahi lāj, kahevāṇī hatī te kahī... 2

(2) A lost kingdom can be regained along with its society and wealth. However, a lost reputation can never be regained. I have said what needs to be said.

Lāj khoīne karvu kāj, eto akāj kharu;

Mar maḷe Trilokinu rāj, ghoḷyu parharo paru... 3

(3) Any effort that leaves one with a lost reputation is worthless. Do not forsake it even if you are offered the reign of all three worlds.

Bethī badlāmī jene shīsh, ṭaḷe nahi koī paḷe;

Kahe Nishkuḷānand vasāvīsh, lakhāy chhe te kāgaḷe... 4

(4) The weight of a lost reputation on one’s head cannot be removed. “This is for sure,” says Nishkulanand Swami, “and it has thus been inscribed on paper.”

Pad - 40

Jone Bhav Brahmājinī bhulya, jan sahu jāṇe chhe;

Ekalshrungī Saubharīnā shul, pothīmā pramaṇe chhe... 1

(1) Just look, people are well aware of Shiv’s and Brahma’s mistake. Also, the scriptures testify of the thorns (flaws) in both Ekalshrungi’s and Saubhari’s reputation.

Nārad Parvatnī nidān, kīrti kathāmā kahī;

Māṭe sahu rahejyo sāvdhān, khabaḍdār kharā thaī... 2

(2) The tale of Narad’s and Parvat’s fame^† has been told in the scriptures. Therefore, remain on guard and alert.

Jenī pāse hoy jokham, jāḷvo te jatan karī;

Mathe moṭā chhe verī visham, khoṭi nahi vāt kharī... 3

(3) One who is at risk of losing something valuable should guard it with great care. There are hostile enemies lingering about. What I say is not false - it is true.

Rahevu nahi gāfal gamār, māl atol maḷe;

Kahe Nishkuḷānand vichār, karvo paḷe paḷe... 4

(4) Do not be careless with and ignorant of the incomparable bounty that you have found. Nishkulanand Swami says, “You should think about this each and every second of the day.”

^†Here, Nishkulanand Swami used the word kirti (fame) sarcastically. While Nāradji (and Parvat) are regarded as ideal renunciates in scriptures, even they succumbed to lust. Hence, Nishkulanand Swami uses the word kirti to mention how they ‘famously’ blemished their reputation from that vice.
