કીર્તન મુક્તાવલી
(૧) મૈં તો ગુનેગાર તેરા રે
સં. ૧૮૬૩માં શ્રીજીમહારાજ કુંડળ અને કારિયાણીથી ગઢપુર પધાર્યા હતા. સામા સંતો અને હરિભક્તોએ આવીને ગામમાં પધરાવ્યા. તે દિવસે ભોજન પછી સભા ભરાઈ. સર્વે બાઈ બાઈ યથાયોગ્ય જગ્યાએ બેઠાં અને મુક્તાનંદ સ્વામી, મુકુંદવર્ણી, વગેરે સાધુ અને ભગુજી આદિ પાળા પણ યથાયોગ્ય બેસી ગયા. સોમલા ખાચર આદિ પ્રેમી ભક્તોને જોઈ મહારાજ બોલ્યા, “એક દૃષ્ટાંત કહું છું તે વિચારજો. એક ચક્રવર્તી રાજા હતો તેને વિચાર કર્યો કે ગામમાં લોક કેવાં સુખી કે દુઃખી છે તેની તપાસ કરવી. જેણે દુઃખ હોય તે દુઃખ મટાડું અને જુલમ હોય તો દૂર કરું. મોટા મંત્રીઓને સાથે લઈ પોતે ફકીરનો વેશ ધરી રાજ્યનાં ગામોમાં ફરવા લાગ્યા.
“રાજા અને મંત્રીઓ ગામના ચોરે ઉતર્યા અને ગામ લોકોને ભેગા કર્યા. મંત્રી કહે કે, ‘આ પ્રત્યક્ષ રાજાધિરાજ છે. જે અરજી હોય તે અહીં રજું કરો. રાજા સાંભળશે અને પછી પોતાના સ્થાને જશે. એમની આજ્ઞા અનુસરશે તેને જમીન, મિલ્કત બક્ષિશ કરશે અને ન માને તેને ગુનેગાર ઠરાવશે.’
“કેટલાક ગામ લોકોને મંત્રીની વાત સત્ય મનાઈ અને સેવા-ચાકરી કરી. કેટલાકે મનમાં કાંઈ ન ધર્યું અને વળી કેટલાકે તો ઉપદ્રવ કર્યો. રાજાએ તે વખતે મૌન ધરીને કશું કર્યું નહીં પણ મંત્રીઓ પાસે બધુ લખાવી દીધું - નામ, ગામ, ઠામ. આમ રાજધાની ફરીને રાજા પાછા આવ્યા.
“રાજા પાછી આવીને જેણે પોતાનો હુકમ માન્યો હતો તેને રાજાએ બક્ષિશ દીધી. જેણે તિરસ્કાર કર્યો તેને કેદખાનામાં મોકલ્યા.”
આ દૃષ્ટાંત આપી મહારાજે દૃષ્ટાંતનો સિદ્ધાંત સમજાવતાં કહ્યું, “કોટિ બ્રહ્માંડનો પતિ હું છું અને મુક્તો લઈને મારા અક્ષરધામમાંથી આવ્યો છું. જીવનાં કલ્યાણ કરવા ગામોગામ વિચરું છું. મારા મુક્તો કહે છે કે, ‘આ પુરુષોત્તમ સાક્ષાત્ છે માટે તેમની આજ્ઞા માનજો. જે આજ્ઞા માનશે તેને ભારે સુખ આપશે અને દ્રોહ કરશે તેને નરકનું દુઃખ ભોગવવવું પડશે.’ વળી કેવળ પુરુષપ્રયત્ન થકી કલ્યાણ નથી. ભગવાનની કૃપાથી કલ્યાણ થાય છે.”
આ પછી બીજું દૃષ્ટાંત મહારાજ આપે છે. “એક રાજાએ લોકને પોતાની સભામાં બોલાવ્યા. ભર સભામાં રાજાએ હુકમ કર્યો, ‘જે ગુનેગાર હોય તે ઊભા થાય.’ રાજાનો હુકમ સાંભળી કેટલાક ઊભા થયા. પછી રાજાએ કહ્યું, ‘જે ગુનેગાર હોય તે માફી માગી અને ઘેર જાય.’ ગુનેગારોએ માફી માગી અને પાછા ઘરે ગયા. પછી જેનામાં જરાક વાંક હોય તે ઊભા થાય તેવો હુકમ કર્યો. કેટલાક ગામ લોકો ઊભા થયા પણ રાજાના કારભારિઓ બેસી રહ્યા.
“આ જોઈ રાજા કહે, ‘બીજા તો મારાથી ડરે છે, માટે પોતાના ગુના કબુલ કર્યા પણ તમે અતિશય અભિમાની છો અને નીજ વાંકની વાત છાની રાખો છો.’ રાજાએ કારભારીઓ વિશે તપાસ કરાવી અને બધા કારભારીઓ ગુનેગાર ઠર્યા.”
મહારાજે આ બીજું દૃષ્ટાંત આપીને પોતાના ભક્તોને ઉપદેશ કર્યો, “હું પાપ નથી કરતો તેવું માન ન રાખશો. કોઈ હરિજને અભિમાન ધરી વાંક છાનો રાખવો નહીં. કપટ તજીને ભગવાનના ગુનેગાર થાય તેના ગુના ભગવાન માફ કરે છે.”
આ વાત સુણી સભાજનો સર્વે બોલ્યા, “અમે એવા અભિમાની નહીં થઈએ અને અમે તો પગલે પગલે ગુનેગાર છૈએ.”
પ્રેમાનંદ સ્વામીએ આવાં મહારાજનાં ઉપદેશ વચનો અનુલક્ષી કીર્તન રચ્યું હતું તે આ કીર્તન છે.
(1) Mai to gunegār terā re
In Samvat 1863, Shriji Maharaj returned to Gadhpur from Kundal and Kariyani. Several sadhus and devotees came to receive Maharaj and welcomed him back to Gadhpur. Later that day, a sabha was arranged, in which all the devotees, sadhus, and parshads sat accordingly. Seeing Somla Kachar and other devotees, Maharaj said, “I wish to tell you a story. Please listen and contemplate on it.
“There was one king who thought, ‘How happy or miserable are the people in my kingdom? I want to relieve them of their misery and rid them of any oppression.’ With this thought, he disguised himself as a fakir, took his ministers along, going from village to village. When he arrived at a village, the ministers gathered the village folk and announced, ‘This is the king himself. He has come to listen to your needs. Whoever obeys his command will receive property and wealth. Whoever does not will be deemed guilty and punished.’
“Some believed the ministers and obeyed the king’s command. Some simply ignored the announcement. Others, however, ridiculed the king in disguise. The king silently observed and had his minister write everyone’s name, village name, etc. The king returned to his palace and awarded the village folk accordingly. Those who obeyed him received property or wealth. Those who ridiculed him were jailed.”
Maharaj then explained the moral, “I am the master of countless brahmānds and I have come with my aksharmuktas from Akshardham. I travel from village to village to liberate jivas. My aksharmuktas proclaim me as Purushottam. They say that whoever obeys my commands will attain the highest bliss while those who go against my commands will be consigned to narak. Moreover, no one can attain liberation by their personal endeavors. Only by the grace of Bhagwan can one be liberated.”
Maharaj narrates another story after this, “One king called all the village folk to his palace and said, ‘Whoever is guilty of a crime, please stand.’ Hearing this, many stood up. He then said, ‘Those who are guilty, come forward to ask for forgiveness and then you may leave.’ The village folk did as told and left for their homes. Then the king ordered, ‘Whoever is guilty of any slight sin please stand.’ Many in the assembly stood while the king’s ministers remained seated. Seeing the ministers seated, the king said, ‘The villagers stood up because they feared me. However, you are all seated due to your arrogance and conceal your sins.’ So saying, the king ordered an investigation on his ministers and they all were found to be guilty of some crime.”
Maharaj then said, “My devotees should not develop arrogance thinking that they are not sinners. And no one should conceal their sins, however slight. One who proclaims that they are guilty will be forgiven by Bhagwan.”
Hearing such words of wisdom, the devotees all said, “Maharaj, we will not become arrogant like that, and we are guilty of sins with every step.”
