ઇતિહાસ
(૧) મુને સ્વપને ન ગમે રે સંસાર
સાધુ દીક્ષા ગ્રહણ કર્યા બાદ, નિષ્કુળાનંદ સ્વામી તેમનાં માતા અમૃતબા સાથે શેખપાટના ચોરામાં આત્મા વિશે વાત કરી રહ્યા હતા. સ્વામી અમૃતબાને આત્માનું સત્ય સ્વરૂપ અને દેહનું નાશવંતપણું સમજાવતા હતા. ગામના લોક આ વાર્તાલાપ સાંભળવા ભેગા થયા. ગામધણી સોઢાબાપુ પણ આવી પહોંચ્યા. તેમને સમાચાર મળી ગયા હતા કે લાલજી સુથાર સ્વામિનારાયણના સાધુ થયા છે. સોઢાબાપુ જામનગર નરેશના નજીકના સંબંધી હતા અને ગામમાં એમનું વર્ચસ્વ હતું. તેમનેે જોઈને સ્વામીએ જાણી લીધું કે વાતાવરણ ગંભીર થઈ ચૂક્યું છે. બાપુ ક્રોધીત થશે તો ઉપાધિ થશે. પણ ધાર્યું તો એક ભગવાનનું જ થાય છે, એમ સમજી મહારાજને અંતરમાં રાખી અમૃતબાને જ્ઞાન આપવાનું ચાલુ રાખ્યું.
અમૃતબાને આ જ્ઞાન કેવી રીતે પચ પડે? તેમને તો ત્યાંજ રડવાનું શરું કર્યું અને બોલ્યાં, “બેટા, તું કહે છે તે સાચું છે એમ હું માનું છું. છતાં ઘરનો ત્યાગ કર્યા વગર તારું જ્ઞાન ન આપી શકાય? ઘરમાં રહીને પણ પ્રભુ ભજી શકાય. આ ખોટું હોય તો પૂછી જો આ ગામલોકોને.”
આ સાંભળી ગામલોકો એકી સાથે બોલી ઊઠ્યા, “બાની વાત બરાબર છે. મન શુદ્ધ હોય તો ગમે તે થઈ શકે. ઘેર રહીને પણ ભગવાન ભજી શકાય.”
સોઢાબાપુને પણ બોલવાની ઇચ્છા થઈ. તેઓ ઊભા થઈને ઊંચે સાદે બોલ્યા, “લાલજી, તારાં માતુશ્રીનો વિચાર તો કર. જ્યારથી સાંભળ્યું કે તું સાધુ થયો છું ત્યારથી તેમણે અન્નનો ત્યાગ કર્યો છે. તારા જેવા બુદ્ધિશાળીને શું કહેવું? મારા મતે માતાને નિરાશ કરવાં તે યોગ્ય નથી. તારા આબરુની વાત છે. સાધુવેશ ઉતારી અને પાછો આવી જા. મારું નહિ માનું તો પછી દરિયાનાં મોજાંની જેમ પછડાઈને પડીશ.”
સ્વામીએ પરિસ્થિતિને પારખી લીધી. મહારાજની સ્મૃતિ કરતાં તેમના અંતરમાં પ્રેરણા થઈ આવી. એક સ્થંભ પર હાથ અડાડીને, પ્રખર કાવ્ય રચઈતા હોઈ, કીર્તનરૂપે ગ્રામ્યજનોને સચોટ ઉપદેશ આપવા લાગ્યા, જે આ પ્રસ્તુત કીર્તનમાં જણાઈ આવે છે.
History

After becoming a sadhu, Nishkulanand Swami was conversing with his mother Amrutba in the village square of Shekhpāt. Nishkulanand Swami explained to her that the ātmā within the body is eternal and the truth, whereas the body is temporary and false. Some of the village folk gathered to listen to the conversation. The leader of the village, Sodhha Bapu also heard that the village’s most experienced carpenter, Lalji Suthar, has become a sadhu of Swaminarayan Bhagwan and came. Sodhha Bapu was a close relative of Jām Sāheb (the king of Jamnagar), and so he had immense influence over the village. Seeing Bapu arrive, Swami became concerned but knew destiny would take its course. If Bapu were to become angry, there may be trouble; however only what the Lord wishes will happen. Swami kept the Lord in his mind and carried on with his preaching. But his mother could not bear Swami’s words of wisdom and began to cry. She said, “Son, what you are saying is true, and I believe it. However, can you not try to preach this knowledge without renouncing your family? You can still worship the Lord by remaining with your family. If that is not true, ask the good villagers.”
As she said this, all the good villagers responded that what she is saying is correct. If your mind is pure, anything can be achieved. On hearing this, Sodhha Bapu stood up, raised his hand and spoke with a loud voice, “Lalji, imagine how your mother is feeling? Ever since she heard that you have become a sadhu, she has lost her appetite. This has gone too far. What more is left to say to an intelligent person like you? In my view, if your mother is crying, and you are the only son who does not obey and upsets the family, it is not right. Lalji, in this case, it is a question of dignity. I am instructing you to shed your clothes and come back home. If you do not listen to me now, you will come crashing down like a wave.”
Nishkulanand Swami understood that the situation was becoming grave. Suddenly, he gained some inspiration from within and with one hand, he held onto a pillar and started to preach to the villagers and the leaders with a kirtan. A master in poetry, Niskhulanand Swami resorted to getting his message across using his creativity.
