કીર્તન મુક્તાવલી
ઇતિહાસ
(૧) અક્ષરના વાસી વહાલો આવ્યા અવનિ પર
શ્રીજી મહારાજ દાદા ખાચરના દરબારમાં નીંબતરુ નીચે બિરાજમાન હતા. મહારાજે પોતાના સ્વરૂપ સંબંધી વાત કરતાં કહ્યું, “અમે ક્યારેય આ પૃથ્વી પર પધાર્યા નથી અને પધારશું પણ નહીં. ભગવાને પૂર્વે ઘણા અવતારો ધારણ કર્યા છે અને મોક્ષના ઉપાયો બતાવ્યા છે. પરંતુ આ સમયે જે સ્વરૂપ ધાર્યું છે તે ઉત્તમ છે અને પરાત્પર છે.”
મહારાજે આગળ વાત કરી, “મનુષ્યના હૃદયમાં જે જીવ બિરાજે છે તે કર્મને આધિન છે. જે ભક્તનો જીવ અતિ બળિયો હોય અને પૂર્વના ઉત્કૃષ્ટ સંસ્કાર હોય તે જ દેહાત્મબુદ્ધિ અને દેહના સંબંધીને વિશે મમત્વબુદ્ધિનો ત્યાગ કરી શકે છે. આવો મોક્ષનો ઉપાય કોઈએ પૂર્વે બતાવ્યો નથી. આ અવતાર ધારીને અમે સર્વ વાસનાનો નાશ કરવાનો ઉપાય બતાવવા આવ્યા છીએ.”
મહારાજ વાતો કરતા હતા ત્યારે સદ્ગુરુ મુક્તાનંદ સ્વામી સુરતથી વિચરણ કરીને પાછા આવી ગયા હતા. મહારાજનાં દર્શન કરીને સભામાં આસન ગ્રહણ કર્યું. મહારાજ પણ ઘણા પ્રસન્ન જણાતા હતા અને પોતાની પાસે બેસાડ્યા અને દેશના સમાચાર પૂછ્યા. મુક્તાનંદ સ્વામીએ વાત કરી, “મહારાજ, આપના પ્રતાપ અને કૃપાથી દેશના ભક્તો શુદ્ધ રીતે સત્સંગનું આચરણ કરે છે અને મોક્ષભાગી થયા છે. સંપ્રદાયની મર્યદા દૃઢપણે જાળવે છે. ઘણા વ્યસનમુક્ત થઈને આ લોકનાં સુખ અને આ લોકની ઇચ્છાઓ પણ મિથ્યા જાણીને ત્યાગ કર્યાં છે.”
મુક્તાનંદ સ્વામીએ આગળ વાત ચાલુ રાખી, “મહારાજ, આ સમયમાં દુકાળને લીધે ઘણા ગરીબીમાં જીવન વિતાવે છે. તેમાં એક આપનો ભક્ત ઘેલાભાઈ† લોયા-નાગડકાથી સુરત આવેલો. રસ્તામાં કોઈનું સોનાનું ઝાંઝર પડ્યું હતું. સત્સંગના નિયમ પ્રમાણે તેણે તો લેવાની કોઈ ઇચ્છા નહોતી, પણ એના મનમાં સંકલ્પ થયો કે મારી પત્ની પાછળ આવે છે તેને સોનું જોઈને મન લોભાય તો નિયમભંગ થાય. માટે તેને પગથી તેના ઉપર ધૂળ પાથરી દીધી. તેનાં પત્ની ઘેલાભાઈ સાથે ભેગાં થયાં ત્યારે પૂછ્યું કે તમે આગળ શું કરતા હતા. ત્યારે તેને વાત કરી. પત્ની કહે તમે તો ધૂળ ઉપર ધૂળ પાથરી. બીજાની વસ્તુ ધૂળ સમાન છે.”
મહારાજ આ સાંભળી કહે, “સ્વામી, તમે આવ્યા પહેલાં અમે અમારા પ્રાગટ્યની વાતો કરતા હતા. અમારા સંતો સ્ત્રી-ધનનો ત્યાગ કરીને પંચવર્તમાનમાં દૃઢપણે વર્તે છે. અને અમારા હરિભક્તો પણ આ લોકની ઇચ્છા ટાળીને તેમના પંચવર્તમાનમાં દૃઢપણે વર્તે છે.”
પ્રેમાનંદ સ્વામી આ વાર્તાલાપ સાંભળી રહ્યા હતા. મહારાજે અંતર્યામીપણે પ્રેમાનંદ સ્વામીને પોતાના પ્રાગટ્યનો હેતુ આવરી લે તેવાં કીર્તન રચવાની આજ્ઞા કરી.
†સંપ્રદાયના ગ્રંથોમાં ઘેલાભાઈ સગ્રામ વાઘરી તરીકે પણ ઓળખાય છે.
History
(1) Aksharnā vāsī vahālo, āvyā avani par
Shriji Maharaj’s was seated in Dada Khachar’s darbār in Gadhada under the neem tree. Thereupon Shri Hari said, “Dear sadhus, I have never come on this earth before nor will I ever come again. God has previously taken many forms on earth; all forms having shown different ways of achieving moksha. However, the form taken this time is the ultimate and transcendental.”
He then continued saying, “The jiva that reside in the heart of ordinary people are affected by past and present karmas. Devotees that possess strength in the jiva due to their great sanskārs from previous births are able to discard physical attractions towards the body and its relations and are able to rid themselves of attachment for materialistic objects (vāsanā) which clings to the jiva. This method has never been shown in the past as a way to achieve moksha. In this avatār, I have come to show you the means to eradicate all forms of vāsanā and secure your moksha.”
While Maharaj was speaking, Sadguru Muktanand Swami returned from his satsang tour of Surat. He did darshan of Maharaj and joined the assembly. Shri Hari was very happy to see Swami and wholeheartedly welcomed him and requested him to sit next to Him. Shri Hari asked him questions about his travels and the satsang of Surat.
Muktanand Swami replied, “Oh Lord, with your will and blessings, the devotees are practicing the true form of satsang for their moksha. They staunchly follow the rules and regulations of the Sampraday. Many devotees have freed themselves from various addictions and desires for materialistic objects and worldly happiness.”
Muktananad Swami continued, “Maharaj! In this day and age there are many people who live in poverty. One such migrant was a devotee named Ghelabhai, a Kodi by caste,† who came from Loya-Nagadka to Surat with his wife to escape the famine. As they were walking towards Surat, Ghelabhai saw a golden anklet on the ground. He knew it was wrong to pick up lost property. Thinking his wife would be tempted to pick it up, he covered the golden anklet by pushing dirt over it with his feet. His wife caught up to him and said, ‘You covered the anklet to hide it from me, thinking I might be tempted to take it; however, in my mind, since the day that we have met Bhagwan Swaminarayan, anything that doesn’t belong to us is the same as dirt.’”
On hearing this story of Ghelabhai from Muktanand Swami, Shri Hari said, “Swami, before you came, we were all discussing the reason for my coming onto this earth and enabling all to attain ultimate moksha. The sadhus have renounced women and wealth and follow their five religious vows (panch-vartmān) whereas the devotees have also become free from worldly pleasures and follow their five religious vows.”
During this time, young Premanand Swami was listening and composing a kirtan about this discussion. The all-knowing Maharaj requested Premsakhi (Premanand Swami) to sing this kirtan. Premanand Swami sang the kirtan capturing the purpose of Maharaj’s birth and the respect his devotees gained by following the rules Maharaj gave them.
†This narrative of Ghelabhai is attributed to Sagram Vaghari of Limli village and his wife in the scriptures of the Swaminarayan Sampraday. Readers should make note of this.
