(૧) હરિગુણ ગાતાં દુરિજનિયાનો ધડક ન મનમાં ધારીએ
થઈ એકમના પ્રભુને ભજીએ
રાત્રે સભામાં વાત કરી: “‘હરિગુણ ગાતાં...’ એ ચાર કીર્તન શાસ્ત્રીજી મહારાજને બહુ પ્રિય હતાં. એમાં બહુ જ્ઞાન આવી ગયું. મહારાજની મૂર્તિ સામું જોઈ કીર્તન કરેલાં. અહીં પોઢતા ને ૧૨ વાગ્યા સુધી કીર્તન સાંભળતા. એમાં લખ્યું - ‘થઈ એકમના પ્રભુને ભજીએ...’ એક સંપથી કામ થતું હોય તો સહુ ભળી જાય. ‘એ તો એને માથે ક્રિયા છે. મારે શું?’ એમ નહિ. શાસ્ત્રીજી મહારાજ દરેક કામમાં જતા.”

“પાંચસે પરમહંસો એકમના થઈ પ્રભુ ભજતા. શાસ્ત્રીજી મહારાજના ૫૦ સંતો હતા. એક અવાજ, બીજો વિચાર નહિ. રિસાઈ જવું નહિ. ઠરડાવું નહિ. આપણું ઘર જાણી સેવા કરવી. શાસ્ત્રીજી મહારાજ રાત કહે તો રાત, દી’ કહે તો દી’. એમાં શંકા નહિ. તૈંયે મોટાપુરુષ રાજી થયા છે.
“મહાપુરુષ સ્વામી કહેતા: ‘અમે નાક કાપી પૂંઠે ચોડ્યું છે ત્યારે ભગતજી મહારાજ રાજી થયા છે. કોઈ દી’ સન્માન તો ભગતજી મહારાજે કર્યું જ નથી. મહુવા જઈએ તો તગેડી મૂકે.’”

Worship God with One Mind
Swamishri said during the evening assembly: “The four verses ‘Harigun gātā...’ were Shastriji Maharaj’s favorite. There is a great deal of understanding in them. The kirtans were composed in front of Maharaj. When we slept here, we would listen to kirtans

“The 500 paramhansas worshiped God with one mind. Shastriji Maharaj had 50 sadhus. They all spoke with one voice. They had no other thought. We should not feel hurt. Do sevā with the understanding that this is our house. If Shastriji Maharaj says night, then it is night. If he says day, then day. No doubts in that. Only the will the Mota-Purush become pleased.
“Mahapurush Swami used to say, ‘We cut our nose and stuck it on our back... only then was Bhagatji Maharaj was pleased with us. (i.e. We became humble in this way.) However, Bhagatji Maharaj never once honored us. If we went to Mahuva to see him, he would drive us away.’”

(૨) હરિગુણ ગાતાં દુરિજનિયાનો ધડક ન મનમાં ધારીએ
સીસું ધરબી દેવું
તા. ૧૪મીએ સભા પ્રસંગમાં ‘હરિગુણ ગાતાં...’ કીર્તન ઉપર વાત કરતાં સ્વામીશ્રીએ કહ્યું:
“રાજા હરિશ્ચંદ્ર સત્ને માટે ભંગીને ઘેર વેચાયા. રાણી અને કુંવરને પણ વેચ્યાં. આવી દૃઢતા ધારે તે મુખિયા - આજ્ઞાની દૃઢતા જોઈએ. મનમુખી દુઃખિયા રહે છે. તેમ આપણે કોઈ કાળે દુઃખિયા ન રહીએ. જો દૃઢતા હોય તો મહારાજ સહાય કરે. એક મહારાજનો આશરો હોય અને સર્વોપરી નિષ્ઠા હોય, તો મહારાજ રક્ષા કરે. અને ‘તુમ બી આ જાઓ, તુમ બી આ જાઓ,’ એમ કરીએ તો દુઃખ જ થાય.
“શ્રીજીમહારાજે વરતાલના પાંચમા વચનામૃતમાં કહ્યું છે કે: ‘આશરો હોય ને મહાપ્રલય જેવું દુઃખ આવી પડે તોપણ તે દુઃખ થકી રક્ષાના કરનારા ભગવાન વિના બીજાને ન જાણે...’
“અર્જુન ભગવાનની મરજી પ્રમાણે જ વર્ત્યા તો ભગવાનના અનન્ય ભક્ત કહેવાયા. ચાર ભાઈ રહી ગયા અને આનો પહેલો નંબર લાગી ગયો. શ્રીજીમહારાજે અમદાવાદમાં નરનારાયણની મૂર્તિ પધરાવી દીધી.
“દૃઢતા ન હોય તો તરત મનમાં વિચાર થાય કે: ‘મહારાજે મારું કાંઈ કર્યું નહિ, મારું નખ્ખોદ કાઢી નાખ્યું.’ ખરા હરિભક્તનું લક્ષણ તો ગ. છે. ૨૫માં કહ્યું છે: ‘દેહમાં કોઈક દીર્ઘ રોગ આવી પડે તથા ખાવા અન્ન ન મળે, વસ્ત્ર ન મળે; ગમે એટલું સુખ-દુઃખ આવે તોપણ ભગવાનની ઉપાસના, ભક્તિ, નિયમમાં રંચમાત્ર મોળો ન પડે અને રતિવા સરસ થાય.’ આ શ્રીજીમહારાજની શ્રીમુખની વાણી છે. આવો હોય તે ફર્સ્ટ નંબરમાં પાસ થાય. સેકન્ડ, થર્ડમાં નહિ.
“ભક્તવત્સલ ભગવાન સહાયમાં બેઠા જ છે. માહાત્મ્યે સહિત ભગવાનનો નિશ્ચય હોય, સંત ને સત્સંગીનું માહાત્મ્ય પણ જાણતો હોય ને તે ભક્તનું કર્મ કઠણ હોય, કાળ કઠણ હોય, તોપણ તે ભક્તનું કાળ ને કર્મ બેય ભૂંડું કરી શકતા નથી. મહારાજ પુરુષોત્તમ અને સંત અનાદિ અક્ષરબ્રહ્મ. આવી નિષ્ઠામાં જો કાંઈક ફેર હોય તો તેનું ભગવાન રૂડું કરવાને ઇચ્છે તોપણ રૂડું થતું નથી. ઉંમર થાય અને પડળ આવે, આંખમાં કણું પડે ત્યારે ડૉક્ટર ખેંચી લે તો તરત ભડાકો થાય, તેજ દેખાય. તેમ ભગવાન ને સંતની નિષ્ઠા પાકી છે, તો કર્મ ને કાળ કઠણ હોય તોય વાંકો વાળ ન કરી શકે.
“ભગવાન આશીર્વાદ દીએ. સાક્ષાત્ હાજર હુકમ હોય તોય પાયો કાચો એટલે પડે હેઠો. મકાનનો પાયો કાચો હોય તો પડે હેઠું. સિમેન્ટ રેડ્યો હોય તો ન પડે. નર્મદાનો પુલ સીસું રેડીને કર્યો છે; તેમ કરે તો ન પડે. નિષ્ઠા કાચી હોય તેમાં ભગવાન શું કરે? નિષ્ઠા ને આજ્ઞા બે મુખ્ય જોઈએ. સીસું ધરબી દેવું જોઈએ.
“સંત રાત-દી’ ફરે છે શું કરવા? ધર્માદો લેવા? ધોતિયાં લેવા? ના. નિષ્ઠા પાકી કરાવવા ફરે છે. નિષ્ઠા હોય તો બીજા દેવની આસ્થા રાખે નહિ. ઘરમાં બીજા ક્ષુદ્ર દેવની મૂર્તિ પધરાવીને કહે, ‘સ્વામી! મારું સારું કરો.’ પણ ક્યાંથી કરે?
‘દૃઢતા જોઈને રે, તેની મદદ કરે મુરારિ.’
“અહીં પણ બ્રહ્માનંદ સ્વામીએ એ જ કહ્યું અને મુક્તાનંદ સ્વામીએ પણ આમ કહ્યું: ‘એવી દૃઢતા ધારે તે મુખિયા.’
“હાણ-વૃદ્ધિ ભગવાનનાં ટાળ્યાં ટળે છે. તો ભગવાનના ભક્તને હિંમત ન હારવી.
“કદરજને જ્ઞાનની દૃઢતા હતી, તો કેટલાંય વર્ષો થઈ ગયા છતાં સ્વામીએ તેને યાદ કર્યા, ને સહી કરી. કોઈ ઓળખતું નથી, પણ દુઃખ ન લગાડ્યું. વાસુદેવ-દેવકી ભગવાનનાં માબાપ હતાં, છતાં બાર વર્ષ જેલમાં રહેવું પડ્યું.
“આમાં ચારે પદનો સિદ્ધાંત શો છે? એકમના થઈ સંપ-સુહૃદભાવે પ્રભુને ભજીએ તો હરિને રીઝીએ. બે બળદિયા જુદા ખેંચે તો ગાડું સરખું હાલે? જોડના સરખા હોય તો એકદમ પહોંચાડી દે. તેમ સંત-હરિભક્તને એકમના થઈ પ્રભુ ભજી લેવા. મહારાજની મૂર્તિમાં જોડાઈ જઈએ તો શાંતિ થઈ જાય. આ કીર્તનનો સાર - દૃઢતા રાખવી.”

(2) Hariguṇ gātā durijaniyāno dhaḍak na manmā dhārīe
Yogiji Maharaj explained the kirtan ‘Harigun gātā...’:
“King Harishchandra sold himself to a low caste woman for the truth. He even sold his queen and son. Those who have such firmness are foremost - one needs firmness in following orders of God. Those who do as they desire are miserable. We do not remain miserable (because we follow God’s commands). If we have such firmness, then God will come to our aid. If we have only one refuge - that of God, and we have faith of God’s supremacy, then Maharaj will protect us. On the contrary, if we have refuge of other deities other than Maharaj, then we will invite misery.
“Shriji Maharaj has said in Vartal 5: ‘One who has such a firm refuge of God, even if he were to experience pain equivalent to that of final dissolution, he would not believe anyone else to be his guardian against such misery except God.’
“Arjun behaved according to God’s wishes; hence, he became known as his greatest devotee, while his other four brothers were left behind. Arjun placed first. Shriji Maharaj installed the murtis of Nar and Narayan in Amdavad (meaning he installed Arjun (Nar) along with Krishna (Narayan)).
“If one does not have firmness, then he immediately thinks: ‘Maharaj did not do anything for me. He destroyed everything of mine.’ The true characteristics of a devotee is in Gadhada III-25: ‘ If some prolonged illness were to overtake a person’s body, or if he receives neither food to eat nor any clothes to wear; in fact, regardless of the extent of pain or pleasure that come his way, if he still does not regress even slightly from the worship and bhakti of God, niyams, dharma or shraddhā, but on the contrary, progresses with time...’ This are Shriji Maharaj’s words. This type of devotees passes in the first place, not second or third.
“God, who is dedicated to his devotees, is ready to help his devotees. If one has the conviction of God along with the knowledge of his greatness and he understands the greatness of the Sant and other satsangis, then even if his karmas are adverse, circumstances are adverse, those adverse karmas and circumstances are not able harm him. Maharaj is Purushottam and the Sant is eternal Aksharbrahma - if someone has any doubts in this understanding, then even if God wishes good unto him, no good will come to him. As one ages, one’s vision becomes hazy or develops a cataract. If the doctor removes it, then one may see again. Similarly, if one’s faith is strong, then adverse karmas and circumstances will not be able to harm even a single hair of the devotee.
“God will give his blessings. On the other hand, even if God is present, if his foundation is weak, then he will fall; just as a building whose foundation if weak will fall. If cement is poured in the foundation, then it will not fall. When the Narmada bridge was being constructed, they pours liquid metal - it would not fall. If one’s faith is weak, what can God do? One needs faith and observance of commands. One should cement their understanding (with these two).
“The Sant travels day and night. For what? To collect everyone’s dharmādo (10% of one’s earnings)? No. To increase their faith in God. If one has faith in Maharaj, then one will not look to other minor deities. People install minor deities in their house and then ask us, ‘Swami, improve my circumstances.’ How can we do that?
“Brahmanand Swami and Muktanand Swami have said the same thing: ‘Those who bear such firmness are foremost among devotees.’
“Failure and progression come and go due to God’s will. So a devotee of God should not lose courage.
“Kadraj has firmness of gnān. Despite so many years have passed, Swami still remembered him and approved of him as an example. Vasudev and Devki were the parents of God, yet they remained jailed for 12 years.
“What is the principle of these four verses? If all of us worship God in unison, maintain unity and brotherhood, then God will be pleased with us. If two bullocks pull the cart in opposite ways, will it go forward? If the two in the pair are similar, then they will take you to your destination. Similarly, the sadhus and devotees should worship God with one mind. If we attach ourselves in Maharaj’s murti, then we will be at peace. The essence of these kirtan: have firmness.”

(૩) હરિગુણ ગાતાં દુરિજનિયાનો ધડક ન મનમાં ધારીએ
જજમેન્ટ
આજે રાત્રે ‘હરિગુણ ગાતાં...’ એ કીર્તન બોલાવરાવ્યું. લગભગ રોજ બોલાવરાવતા. ક્યારેક તો દિવસમાં બે વાર બોલાવરાવે. આજે પોતે જાતે એનો મરમ સમજાવતાં કહ્યું:
“આ કીર્તન શું કામ વારે વારે બોલાવીએ છીએ, તે તમે સમજ્યા? આમાં મુક્તાનંદ સ્વામીએ છેલ્લે જજમેન્ટ આપી દીધું: ‘થઈ એકમના પ્રભુને ભજીએ.’ સંપ-સુહૃદભાવ રાખી, એકમના થઈ, ભગવાન ભજવા. એમ મુદ્દો સમજાવ્યો.”

Judgment
Today, at night, Yogiji Maharaj had ‘Harigun gāta...’ sung. He had this sung almost daily. Sometimes, he had it sung twice in a day. Today, he explained its significance:
“Do you understand why we have this kirtan sung over and over again? In this kirtan, Muktanand Swami has given his judgment in the end: ‘Thai ek-manā Prabhune bhajie.’ We should worship God with unity, brotherhood, and with one mind. This is the principle that he has explained.”

(૪) હરિગુણ ગાતાં દુરિજનિયાનો ધડક ન મનમાં ધારીએ
લિવિંગ્ટનમાં ધનસુખભાઈના બંગલે યોજાયેલી સભાનો પ્રારંભ થયો ત્યારે ફક્ત ૧૦-૧૨ મુમુક્ષુઓ જ સામે બેઠેલા. છતાં સ્વામીશ્રીએ ‘હરિગુણ ગાતાં…’ એ ચોસર પર કેફથી વાત ઉપાડી કે:
“ભગવાનના ભક્ત ગમે તેવા દેશકાળ આવે પણ ભગવાનનું ભજન મૂકે જ નહીં. ભગવાનના ભક્તને શિર સાટે બધું રાખવું. ધર્મ મૂકીને ધન ભેગું કરવું નહીં. ‘ભક્તિ શિશતણું સાટું, આગળ વસમી છે વાટ્યું...’ દાદાખાચરને ઉપાધિ આવી છતાં ભગવાન સ્વામિનારાયણને ન મૂક્યા. તેમની દૃઢતા મોળી ન પડી. સોનું જેમ અગ્નિમાંથી પાર થાય છે તો તેની કિંમત અંકાય છે. તેમ જે બધાં કષ્ટોમાંથી પાર પડે તેની કિંમત અંકાય. તેને ભગવાનના અક્ષરધામનું સુખ વધુ મળે. ભગવાન સુખ કરવા માટે દુઃખ આપે છે. ભગવાનનું ભજન જો ન થાય તો શોક કરવો. મોટાપુરુષ આપણા સ્વભાવ લેવા અને ભગવાન આપવા પધાર્યા છે.”

In Livingston at Dhansukhbhai’s bungalow, only 10 or 12 people were present in the assembly. Nevertheless, Swamishri started explaining the kirtan ‘Harigun gātā...’:
“No matter what adversities a devotee of God faces, he is never deterred in his worship of God. A devotee of God should continue his worship, even if he loses his head. One should not earn wealth by forsaking one’s dharma. ‘Bhakti shishtanu sātu, āgal vasami chhe vātyu...’ (Devotion of God requires sacrificing one’s head, the path ahead is difficult...) Dada Khachar faced many adversities, yet he did not give up Bhagwan Swaminarayan. His firmness in Maharaj did not decrease. Just as when gold is tested with fire, its value is determined; similarly, one who treads difficult times, his value is known. He experiences greater bliss of Akshardham. God gives us (worldly) misery to give us (God’s) bliss. If one cannot worship God, then one should lament. The Mota Purush has come to take away our vices and give us God.”

(૫) હરિગુણ ગાતાં દુરિજનિયાનો ધડક ન મનમાં ધારીએ
૧૯૭૪-૭-૨૭. નાયગ્રા ફૉલ્સ, કેનેડા. સૌએ રાત્રિના અંધકારમાં ધોધ પર ફેંકવામાં આવતાં રંગબેરંગી પ્રકાશના શેરડાથી ઊભી થતી અભિનવ અને આકર્ષક સૃષ્ટિ જોઈને જવા સ્વામીશ્રીને વિનંતી કરી. તેઓએ આ વાત સ્વીકારી, પણ હજી એ કાર્યક્રમને વાર હતી એટલે તરત બોલ્યા, “ચાલો, ભજન-કીર્તન કરીએ.” એમ પ્રતીક્ષા સમયના સદુપયોગનું આયોજન આપી દીધું અને નાયગ્રાના કિનારે કીર્તનની કકડાટી બોલવા માંડી. અજાયબીના ઓવારે અજાયબી સમાન વધુ એક દૃશ્ય સર્જાઈ રહ્યું.
ભજન-કીર્તન માટે સ્વામીશ્રી ઘાસના મેદાનમાં બેસવાની તૈયારી કરી રહેલા ત્યારે એક હરિભક્તે સમયસૂચકતા વાપરીને પોતાનો હાથરૂમાલ બેસવા માટે પાથરી દીધો. પણ સ્વામીશ્રીએ તેથી અધિક ત્વરાથી તે રૂમાલ પર ઠાકોરજીને પધરાવી દીધા. પુરબહાર ખીલેલી પ્રકૃતિમાં પણ, તેઓ પરમાત્મામાં જ રમમાણ છે તેનું આ દર્શન સૌને અજાયબી સમાન જ લાગ્યું. સૌએ તેને ચિરંતન કરવા કૅમેરાને કામે લગાડી દીધો.
કીર્તન-ભક્તિમાં નિમગ્ન સ્વામીશ્રીએ થોડી વારે ‘હરિગુણ ગાતાં...’ પદ પર વાત ઉપાડી કે: “લાખો માણસ અહીં જોવા આવે છે પણ આ ધોધના બનાવનાર ભગવાન છે. જ્ઞાન થાય તેને એ સમજાય ને આનંદ આવે. શ્રીજી મહારાજે મૂળજી બ્રહ્મચારીને પૂછ્યું કે, ‘આ પાંદડું કોણ હલાવે છે?’ બ્રહ્મચારી કહે, ‘પવન.’ ત્યારે શ્રીજીમહારાજે પૂછ્યું, ‘પવનને કોણ હલાવે છે?’ ત્યારે બ્રહ્મચારી બોલ્યા, ‘ભગવાન.’ તેમ ભગવાનને જ જે સર્વકર્તા માને તેને જગતના કોઈ પદાર્થમાં આશ્ચર્ય થાય નહીં. કારણ, તે ભગવાનનું જ કાર્ય છે. ભગવાનને જોવા થકી જે આનંદ થાય તે બીજાથી ન થાય... ન્યૂયોર્કમાં મંદિર થયું. હવે કેનેડા જાગ્યું છે. સંતો વારાફરતી અહીં આવશે. આ દેશમાં સો (સંતો) ફરશે. આ વાત સમજાય તેમ નથી. પણ મહારાજ-સ્વામીનું જ્ઞાન બધે પ્રવર્તશે. આ કેનેડાનું ધાર્યું હતું? પણ આવી ગયા. તેમ જાપાન પણ જઈશું. જાપાનમાં પણ જાગશે. ગાયો લીલું જોઈને ચરવા જાય તેમ ભક્તો જોઈને સંતો ત્યાં જાય છે. સ્વામી કહેતા: ‘બધા દેશોમાં મહારાજ-સ્વામીનો મહિમા ગાવો છે.’ કંઠી, માળા વગેરેના ૬૫ ડૉલર કસ્ટમવાળાએ લીધા. પરચો થયો. ભલે, તેનું સારું થશે. આપણે ભગવાન ભજી લેવા.”

(5) Hariguṇ gātā durijaniyāno dhaḍak na manmā dhārīe
July 27, 1974. Niagra Falls, Canada. At night, everyone requested Swamishri stay to see the spectacular lights attraction, where colorful lights were thrown on the falling water causing it to appear colorful. However, there was some time before the attraction started, so Swamishri said, “Let’s sing devotional kirtans.” In this manner, Swamishri used his time wisely in the worship of God. Even at the heels of a natural wonder, Swamishri was engrossed in worship of the eternal wonder.
Swamishri was about to sit on the grass before the singing started. One devotee immediately spread a handkerchief for Swamishri to sit on. However, Swamishri impulsively put Thakorji on the handkerchief instead. Everyone were awed at how Swamishri maintains an unbroken connection with Thakorji.
Swamishri then started explaining the meaning of ‘Harigun gātā...’: “Hundreds of thousands of people come to see these waterfalls, but the creator of these falls in God. One who gains this knowledge will understand and experience joy. Shriji Maharaj asked Mulji Brahmachari, ‘Who makes the wind blow?’ Brahmachari said, ‘God.’ Similarly, one who believes God is the inspirer of all will not be awestruck by objects of this world. Why? Because God is behind the creation of these objects. The bliss one gains from seeing God is not found by seeing anything else... We have a mandir in New York now. Canada is now waking up. Sadhus will come here by turns. One hundred sadhus will travel in this country. No one will be able to understand this talk. But the knowledge of Maharaj and Swami will spread everywhere. Did we imagine it would spread to Canada? Yet, here we are. And we will go to Japan and Japan will wake up. Just as cows see the greenery and graze there, similaraly, sadhus go to where there are devotees. Swami used to say: ‘We want to spread the greatness of Maharaj and Swami in all of the countries.’ The customs officers took 65 dollars for our kanthis and mālās. That was a miracle. No big deal. Something good will happen to them. We should worship God.”
