(૧) આજ સખી આનંદની હેલી

સલામ મોળી ન પડવી જોઈએ

વર્ષ ૧૯૬૯નો વસંત પંચમીનો સમૈયો ઉજવ્યા પછી, સ્વામીશ્રીએ કાયમ કેફ કેવી રીતે રહે તેનું સુંદર નિરૂપણ કર્યું:

અહીં સભા પ્રસંગમાં સ્વામીશ્રીએ કહ્યું, “દાદાખાચરને ઘેર મહારાજ ત્રીસ વરસ રહ્યા. પૂર્ણ પુરુષોત્તમ નારાયણને તેમણે રાજી કરી લીધા. ત્રીસ વરસ મહારાજ રહ્યા, પણ મહિમા એવો સમજેલા કે કેફ લેશમાત્ર મોળો પડ્યો નહિ. છકમાં ને છકમાં રહ્યા. આપણને કેમ કેફ મોળો પડી જાય છે? એક-બે દી’ રહી કેફ ઊતરી જાય છે. રાત-દી’ વાતું-વચનામૃત વાંચીએ છીએ, છતાં રાત-દી’ કેફ ને આનંદના ફુવારા કેમ છૂટતા નથી? તે ઉપર વાત કરીએ.

“અમે ઘણાં વરસ પહેલાં સારંગપુર મંદિરને કામે લીંબડી ઝવેરભાઈ દીવાન સાહેબને ત્યાં ગયા હતા. નિર્ગુણ સ્વામી ભેગા હતા. અમારે તુમાર (પત્ર-વ્યવહાર)નું કામ હતું. દીવાન સાહેબે સ્વામીને પોતાની ખુરશીમાં બેસાડ્યા. તે વખતે ઉનાળાના દિવસો હતા. તે દી’ વીજળી-પંખા નહિ. વીજળી ઘંટડી નહિ. ઝવેરભાઈ દીવાન સાહેબ તેમના ઓરડામાં બેઠા હોય અને તેમનો પટાવાળો નોકર બહાર બેસીને દોરીથી વીંઝણો ખેંચીને તેમને અંદર પંખો નાખે. કંઈક કામ હોય ત્યારે દીવાન સાહેબ બોલે, ‘પટાવાલે!’ ત્યારે પટાવાળો ‘જી, સા’બ’ કહેતો, સલામ ભરી તરત સામે ઊભો રહે.

“દીવાન સાહેબ તેને કહે, ‘ફલાણાને આ તુમાર આપી આવ.’ પટાવાળો ‘જી, સા’બ’ બોલી, સલામ ભરી, તુમાર આપી આવે અને પાછો પંખે બેસી જાય. વળી પાછા દીવાન સાહેબ કંઈક કામ અંગે બોલાવે, ‘પટાવાલે!’ તો તરત જ ‘જી, સા’બ’ કરતોક સલામ ભરી ઊભો રહે. પગાર રૂપિયા પાંચ જ મળે, પણ સલામ તાજી ને તાજી. પચાસ ધક્કા ખવરાવે તોય મોળી સલામ નહિ. ‘અહોહો, દીવાન સાહેબે મને બોલાવ્યો!’ જુઓ, પાંચ રૂપિયા જ મળે, પણ કેવો ઇશક!

“આવો મહિમા જો ભગવાનનો ને સંતનો હોય, તો સલામ મોળી ન પડે. કેફ વર્ત્યા જ કરે. નહિ તો સત્પુરુષ કંઈક આજ્ઞા કરે તો કહે, ‘મને એકને જ દેખ્યો છે?’ એમ થઈ જાય. તાજો ને તાજો પ્રેમ રહેવો જોઈએ. મનુષ્યભાવ જ નહિ. મોળી વાત જ નહિ.

“ભાવનગરમાં વજેસંગ દરબારે કાયદા ઘડવા એક દી’ ગરાસિયાઓની મિટિંગ ભરી. તે દી’ ચા-પાણી નહિ, પણ સરસ બાવળાની તમાકુથી હોકો ભરે. તે વજેસંગ બાપુએ પહેલાં હોકાની બે ફૂંક મારી ને પછી પચાસ ગામના તાલુકદાર ગરાસિયાને પીવા દીધો. તેણે પછી વીસ ગામના તાલુકદારને દીધો. એમ ફરતો ફરતો હોકો એક-બે ગામના તાલુકદાર પાસે આવ્યો અને તેને પણ બે ફૂંક મારવા મળી. તેનો તેને કેફ ચડી ગયો. અઢારસો પાદરના ધણી વજેસંગ દરબારનો હોકો મને પીવા મળ્યો!

“પછી તો ગામમાં ગ્યો ને છકમાં ને છકમાં ફરે. ગામમાં જે રસ્તે આવે તેને મારે-ઝૂડે. કોઈ પૂછે તો કહે, ‘તું મારી જોડે બોલવા યોગ્ય નથી, મેં વજેસંગનો હોકો પીધો છે.’ પછી કોઈ ભાઈબંધે પૂછ્યું, ‘તું ફાટ્યો ફાટ્યો કેમ ફરે છે? વજેસંગે કંઈ ગામડાં દીધાં છે?’ આણે કહ્યું, ‘ના, દીધું કંઈ નથી, પણ તેના હોકાની બે ફૂંક મારી છે. તેનો મને કેફ છે.’

“આવો કેફ આવે તો કાંઈ બાકી ન રહે.

‘ન ગઈ ગંગા ગોદાવરી કાશી, ઘેર બેઠા મળ્યા અક્ષરવાસી;

તપ રે તીરથમાં હું કાંઈ નવ જાણું, સહેજે સહેજે હું તો સુખડાં રે માણું;

જેરામ કહે સ્વામી સહેજે રે મળિયા, વાતની વાતે વહાલો અઢળક ઢળિયા.’

“આપણે એવાં શું સાધન કર્યાં કે મહારાજ મળ્યા? શાસ્ત્રીજી મહારાજ મળ્યા? તે એમની એક દયાથી જ મળ્યા! આપણને બોલાવી આશીર્વાદ આપે છે, તે કેટલાં ભાગ્ય! અમદાવાદમાં એક કરોડપતિ શેઠિયો આંબલી પોળમાં સ્વામીનાં દર્શન કરવા આવ્યો હતો. પણ સ્વામીએ તેની સામું ન જોયું. ભગવાન ને મોટાપુરુષ જીવને ઓળખે, પછી તેના સામું વાત કરે. આ જીવ પાત્ર છે તેમ ઓળખે.

“મહારાજનો આશરો રાખવો. તેનો કેફ રાખવો. અહીં આવવું. આ મોટો વેપાર હાલે છે. ઘણા સટ્ટા કરે છે. રોજ પૈસા ખોવે. ‘કાલ આવશે, પરમ દી’ આવશે’ એમ આશામાં રહે, પણ આવે કાંઈ નહિ. પણ ટેવ પડી તે છોડે નહિ. ઘરનાં ઘર વેચી મારે. આખી જિંદગી વહી જાય. આશામાં ને આશામાં રહે – છકો-પંજો આજકાલ આવવો જ જોઈએ. તેને કેટલો કેફ છે. તેમ આપણે મહારાજ પુરુષોત્તમ નારાયણ, મૂળ અક્ષરમૂર્તિ ગુણાતીત સ્વામી અને શાસ્ત્રીજી મહારાજ મળ્યા છે, તેના કેફમાં રહેવું. વાતમાં કેફ રાખવો. છકમાં ને છકમાં રહેવું. મોળી વાત જ નહિ.

‘બળ ભરી વાતું મુખે કરવી, મોળી વાત કે’દી ન ઊચ્ચરવી;

મુખોમુખ થઈ ઓળખાણ, કોઈ વાતની ન રહી તાણ;

માટે નિઃશંક થઈને રહેવું, મુખે સ્વામિનારાયણ કહેવું.’

“એવો કેફ જ્યારે સદાય આવે, ત્યારે પુરુષોત્તમ ભગવાનનો સાંધો થયો.

“જેવા ભગવાન મળ્યા છે તેવા ઓળખાય તો પછી બીજા ભગવાન ખોળવા ન પડે. જેવા સાધુ મળ્યા છે તે ઓળખાય તો બીજા સાધુ ખોળવા ન પડે. જેવી પ્રાપ્તિ થઈ છે તેવી ઓળખાય તો બીજી પ્રાપ્તિ ખોળવી ન પડે. જેવો સંબંધ થયો છે તેવો ઓળખાય તો બીજે સંબંધ ન કરવો પડે.”

After celebrating the Vasant Panchami samaiyo of 1969, Swamishri Yogiji Maharaj explained how one can remain enthusiastic constantly. Swamishri said during the sabhā:

“Maharaj stayed in Dada Khachar’s darbār for 30 years. Dada Khachar pleased Maharaj, Purna Purushottam Narayan. He understood Maharaj’s greatness to such as extent that his enthusiasm never dampened. He remained forever ecstatic. Why does our enthusiasms wane? It remains for one or two days and then weans. We read the Vachanamrut and Swamini Vato day and night; yet, why do the fountains of joy not spring from our heart day and night? I will speak on that.

“Many years ago, we went to Zaverbhai Diwan of Limbdi for some matters of Sarangpur mandir. Nirgun Swami was with us. It was a matter of some correspondence. The Diwan sat Swami on his chair. It was summertime. There were no electricity or fans in those days. No electronic bells. Zaverbhai Diwan would sit in his room inside and his ‘patāwālo’ (servant) would sit outside fanning him by pulling a string. If the Diwan had some work for him, he would yell, ‘Patāwāle!’ The servant would immediately come and salute him, ‘Yes, sir!’ His wage was a mere five rupees; yet every time he was called, his salutation was fresh as ever. He would have to make 50 runs, yet his salutation never weakened. ‘Oh! the Diwan called me!’ His enthusiasm was such, despite earning five rupees.

“When one understands the greatness of God and the Sant, one’s salute would not dampen. Enthusiasm would remain constantly. Otherwise, if the Satpurush commands us, we would think ‘Am I the only one that he sees?’ One’s love should remain evergreen. No perception of human traits. No discouraging talks.

“Once, Vajesang Darbar of Bhavnagar called the garāsiyā (landowners) in a meeting to enact some laws. In those days, there was no formality of tea and water. But they smoked the hookah made out of the finest bāval tree. First, Vajesang Bapu would blow twice. Then, another who owned 50 villages would smoke from the same pipe. Then, one who owned 20 villages. The same pipe would go around till it reached one who owned a mere one or two villages. This garāsiyo took two blows and became intoxicated with the thought: I got the opportunity to smoke the pipe of Vajesang Darbar who owns 1800 villages!

“Then, when he returned to his village, he walked around unrestrained and reckless. He would hit whoever crossed his path. If anyone said anything, he would respond, ‘You are not worthy to speak to me. I smoked Vajesang Bapu’s hooka.’ One of his friends asked, ‘Why do you walk around so audaciously? Did Vajesang give you any villages?’ He said, ‘No, he did not give me anything. But I smoked his hookah twice. I am ecstatic about that.’

“If we have this level of enthusiasm, nothing would remain incomplete (in understanding mahimā).”

Tap re tīrathmā hu kāī nav jāṇu, saheje saheje hu to sukhḍā re māṇu;

Jerām kahe Swāmī saheje re maḷiyā, vātnī vāte vā’lo aḍhaḷak ḍhaḷiyā... 3

(I did not go to Ganga, Godavari, Kashi or any places of pilgrimage. One who resides in Akshardham came to me. I do not understand anything about performing austerities; yet I experience bliss easily. I have easily attained God. He has showered his grace upon me bountifully.)

“Which of our spiritual endeavors are great enough that we attained Maharaj? That we met Shastriji Maharaj? We attained them only because of their compassion. They call us by name and bless us - that is our great fortune. One millionaire sheth from Amdavad came for Shastriji Maharaj’s darshan in Ambali Pol. Swami did not even look at him. Mota-Purush recognizes the jiva and then talks to him face-to-face. He knows if this jiva is worthy or not.”
