કીર્તન મુક્તાવલી
પ્રસંગ
(૧) પ્રાણ થકી મુને વૈષ્ણવ વા’લા
અડસઠ તીરથ મારા સંતને ચરણે
શાસ્ત્રીજી મહારાજ સારંગપુરથી બોચાસણ પધાર્યા. યોગી મહારાજ સ્વામીશ્રીની આજ્ઞાથી આશી આવ્યા. તેઓ હંમેશાં વહેલા ઊઠી પ્રભાતી કે કીર્તન ગાતાં. આશીમાં વહેલી સવારે ‘પ્રાણ થકી મુને વૈષ્ણવ વહાલા...’ એ કીર્તન એમણે ઉપાડ્યું. તેમાં,
‘લક્ષ્મીજી અર્ધાંગના મારી, તે મારા સંતની દાસી રે;
અડસઠ તીરથ મારા સંતને ચરણે, કોટિ ગંગા કોટિ કાશી રે.’
એ ચરણ આવ્યું, ત્યારે મંદિરમાં સૂઈ રહેલા આર્યસમાજવાદી રણછોડદાસ બોલી ઊઠ્યા, “મહારાજ! આવું કીર્તન ન ગાશો. આ કળિયુગમાં એવા સંતો નથી હોતા. માટે બીજું બોલો.”
એટલે સરળ પ્રકૃતિના યોગી મહારાજે કહ્યું કે, “આપણે ક્યાં પડાપડી કરવી છે? આ લો, બીજાં બોલીએ.” પછી બીજું કીર્તન ઉપાડ્યું.
રાતે શાસ્ત્રીજી મહારાજ પધાર્યા અને કથાવાર્તા કરી ૧૨ વાગે પોઢ્યા. રાતે ૨ વાગ્યા હશે. તેવામાં મંદિરનાં કમાડ આપોઆપ ખૂલી ગયાં. એક શ્વેત ગાય અંદર દાખલ થઈ. ધીરે પગલે શાસ્ત્રીજી મહારાજના ઢોલિયા પાસે આવી અને એમનાં ખુલ્લાં ચરણો નજીક આળોટવા લાગી. દમના વ્યાધિથી રણછોડદાસ રાતે લગભગ જાગતા પડ્યા રહેતા. તેમણે આ દૃશ્ય જોયું. આશ્ચર્યથી તેઓ આ દેવતાઈ ગાયને જોઈ રહ્યા. થોડીવારે ગાય ઊભી થઈ અને ખડકી બહાર નીકળી ગઈ. રણછોડદાસને થયું કે: “લાવ, જોઉં તો ખરો કે ગાય ક્યાં જાય છે?” તેઓ ગાયની પાછળ ખડકી બહાર નીકળ્યા. ગામની ભાગોળેથી ગાય આકાશ-માર્ગે અદૃશ્ય થઈ ગઈ. રણછોડદાસ અતિ આશ્ચર્યથી આંખે જોયેલી ઘટના વિચારવા લાગ્યા. એમની ભ્રાંતિ ટળી ગઈ.
પરોઢિયે જ્યારે યોગી મહારાજે પ્રભાતી પદો ગાવાં શરૂ કર્યાં, ત્યારે રણછોડદાસ કહે, “સ્વામી! પેલું અડસઠ તીરથવાળું કીર્તન ગાવ.”
યોગી મહારાજ કહે, “કાલે તો તમે એ ગાવાની ના પાડતા હતા ને!”
ત્યારે તેમણે રાત્રે બનેલી હકીકત કહી. તેમને પ્રતીતિ થઈ કે શાસ્ત્રીજી મહારાજ સાચા વૈષ્ણવ સંત છે. સવારે તેઓ વર્તમાન ધરાવી સત્સંગી થયા. પછી મંદિરમાં જ રહેતા અને જે કોઈ આવે તેમને શાસ્ત્રીજી મહારાજ અને યોગી મહારાજના મહિમાની વાત કરતા.

(1) Prāṇ thakī mune vaishṇav vā’lā
The 68 Places of Pilgrimage Are At My Sant’s Feet
Shastriji Maharaj arrived in Bochasan from Sarangpur. On Shastriji Maharaj’s command, Yogiji Maharaj went to Ashi. He always woke up early to sing prabhāti kirtans (kirtans sung in the morning time). In Ashi, Yogiji Maharaj started his singing with ‘Prān thaki mune Vaishnav vahālā...’. He sang the line:
Lakshmījī ardhāngnā marī, te mārā santnī dāsī re;
Aḍsaṭh tīrath mārā santne charaṇe, koṭi Gangā koṭi Kāshī re... prāṇ 3
Ranchhoddas was also sleeping in the mandir at this time and heard this line. He told Yogiji Maharaj, “Maharaj, do not sing a kirtan like this. In this age of Kali-yug, no such Sant exists that matches the qualities of this line. Sing another kirtan”
Yogiji Maharaj, who was always easy going, said, “I will sing another kirtan.” And started singing another one.
At night, Shastriji Maharaj arrived and went to sleep at midnight. It was about 2 am when the doors of the mandir opened automatically. A white cow entered the mandir. She walked slowly up to Shastriji Maharaj’s seat and started rolling at Swamishri’s open feet. Because of his asthma affliction, Ranchhoddas was awake at night. He observed the unearthly cow rolling at Swamishri’s feet. A little while later, the cow got on her feet and went out to the street. Ranchhoddas thought he should follow the cow to see where it goes. He followed to the village square. He saw the cow disappear in the sky. Ranchhoddas could not believe what he saw with his own eye. He realized the truth behind the words of the kirtan.
At dawn, when Yogiji Maharaj started singing kirtans, Ranchhoddas said to Yogiji Maharaj, “Swami, sing that kirtan about the 68 places of pilgrimage.”
Yogiji Maharaj said, “Yesterday you told me not to.”
Then, Ranchhoddas told him what he witnessed the night before and realized that Shastriji Maharaj is such a Sant, whose feet are equal to the 68 places of pilgrimage. He took the vartamās of Satsang and became a satsangi. Henceforth, he lived in the mandir and explained the greatness of Shastriji Maharaj and Yogiji Maharaj to whoever came there.

પ્રસંગ
(૨) પ્રાણ થકી મુને વૈષ્ણવ વા’લા
...તે મારા સંતની દાસી
સ્વામીશ્રીને ‘ગરબડગોટો, પરભુ મોટો’ એવું ગમતું નહીં. નક્કર છાપ ઊપસે તેવાં જ પગલાં મૂકવામાં તેઓ માનતા. તેથી મંદિર બાંધવામાં તેઓ જેટલા ઉત્સાહિત રહેતા તેથી સવાઈ કાળજી મંદિરના સંચાલનમાં પણ રાખતા.
આ હેતુસર મુંબઈના રોકાણ દરમ્યાન તેઓએ મંદિરના સુવ્યવસ્થિત સંચાલન માટે વિવિધ સેવા-વિભાગોમાં જુદા જુદા સંતો-કાર્યકરોની નિયુક્તિ કરી. તે સંદર્ભમાં થઈ રહેલા હળવા વાર્તાલાપમાં દાક્તરી વિદ્યાશાખાના અભ્યાસી કિરણને ઉદ્દેશીને સંતો-યુવકોએ તે યુવાનની અમેરિકા જવાની તીવ્ર ઇચ્છા અંગે વાત કરી. તે સાંભળી સ્વામીશ્રીએ એ યુવકને પૂછ્યું, “અમેરિકા કેમ જવું છે? લક્ષ્મીજી જોઈએ છે?”
આ પ્રશ્નનો કંઈ જવાબ હજી તો પેલો યુવાન આપે તે પહેલાં જ સ્વામીશ્રી પોતાના ડાબા પગની પાની બતાવતાં બોલ્યા, “લે, જોઈએ તેટલી લક્ષ્મી અહીં પડી છે. લઈ લે.”
સ્વામીશ્રીનું આ વિધાન સાંભળી સૌ અવાક્ થઈ ગયા. સૌને તેઓમાં ‘લક્ષ્મીજી અર્ધાંગના મારી, તે મારા સંતની દાસી રે...’ પંક્તિ સાકાર થઈ રહેલી જણાઈ.

... Lakshmi is the Servant of My Sant
Pramukh Swami Maharaj did not like ‘Garbad goto, Parabhu moto’, meaning as long as we believe God is great, it is okay to lapse. Swamishri always took determined steps such that the result was solid. Just as enthusiastic he was in building mandirs, he was also enthusiastic in making sure they would continue to thrive afterward.
With that purpose in mind, when Swamishri stayed in Mumbai mandir during his visit, he appointed different people to the different departments of the mandir so that its activities can be administered appropriately.
During this time, Swamishri was having a light moment with a medical student Kiran. The sadhus and yuvaks mentioned Kiran’s intense desire to move to America. Swamishri asked the yuvak, “Why do you want to go to America? Do you want Lakshmi (wealth)?”
Before the yuvak could answer, Swamishri pointed to his left foot and said, “Here, there is as much Lakshmi here as you would want. Take it.”
Everyone was speechless hearing Swamishri openly and recalled the words: ‘Lakshmījī ardhāngnā marī, te mārā santnī dāsī re...’.
