પ્રસંગ
(૧) માણકીએ ચડ્યા રે મોહન વનમાળી
સંત મળે ત્યારે અમારી ઓળખાણ થાય છે
સંવત ૧૮૭૨. ગઢપુરમાં મહારાજ પંદર દિવસ રહ્યા. તે દરમ્યાન જીવાખાચરના દરબારમાં પણ પધારતા, વાતો કરતા. દાદાના દરબારમાં પણ વાતો કરતા. માન અને સ્વાદનું ખંડન કરતા અને વળી કાઠી હરિભક્તોને ભાવતાં ભોજન પણ જમાડતા. મહારાજના સંબંધથી કાઠી હરિભક્તોમાં જાગૃતિ આવી ગઈ હતી. વિષય અને વ્યસન છોડાવ્યાં અને વળી સમજણ આપી જેથી ભવિષ્યમાં તે ચાળે ફરી કોઈ વખત ચડે નહીં.
વરતાલ જવાનો સમય થઈ ગયો હતો. જે કાઠી દરબારો મહારાજ સાથે જવાના હતા તે બધા આવી ગયા હતા. જીવાખાચર અને તેમના દીકરા મૂળુખાચર પણ આવી ગયા હતા. દાદાના દરબારમાં બધા સભા ભરીને બેસી ગયા હતા. નાજા જોગિયાએ મહારાજની માણકી તૈયાર રાખી હતી. એટલામાં મહારાજ પધાર્યા. ઢોલિયા ઉપર બિરાજ્યા. પછી વાત કરતાં કહ્યું, “આવા સમૈયા-ઉત્સવમાં સંતો-હરિભક્તો આવે, તેમનાં સૌનાં દર્શન થાય, એકબીજા સાથે ભળી જવાય, સુહૃદભાવ વધે, મન ઘસાય, સ્વભાવ ઘસાય, ખોટી ટેવો છૂટી જાય. આ બધું અન્ય સાધન કરતાં કોઈ દિવસ ટળે નહીં. આવા દિવ્ય સત્સંગનું આ ફળ છે. તેમાં જ્યારે સમજણવાળા સંત મળે ત્યારે અમારા સ્વરૂપની સાચી ઓળખાણ થાય. અમે દૂર છીએ એવું ક્યારે મનાય જ નહિ, સદા સમીપમાં છીએ એવું જ્ઞાન થાય. એવા જ્ઞાનની સ્થિતિવાળા ભક્તની અંતર્દૃષ્ટિ ઊઘડે છે અને ભગવાન પોતાના ધામ સહિત સદા તેની સમીપમાં જ છે એ નિશ્ચય થાય છે.” એટલી વાત કરીને મહારાજ ઊઠ્યા.
મહારાજે લાધા ઠક્કરને બોલાવ્યા. તેમને કહ્યું, “રામદાસ સ્વામી ચરોતરમાં છે તેમને કાગળ લખજો કે ફૂલદોલના ઉત્સવમાં પાંચ દિવસ વહેલા અમે વરતાલ પહોંચી જઈશું, માટે વીસ-પચ્ચીસ ગાડાં ભરી કેસૂડાનાં ફૂલ મંગાવજો.” વળી કહ્યું, “ઠાસરા અને ઘોડસર પણ પત્ર લખો કે દસ ગાડાં ભરીને ગુલાબનાં ફૂલ લઈને આવે. નવા વાંસની પિચકારીઓ બનાવવા માટે પાંચ ગાડાં વાંસ લેજો. આ વખતે ભારે રંગોત્સવ કરવો છે.”
એટલું કહીને ફરી પૂછ્યું, “બધે કંકોત્રીઓ લખી? ઠેઠ રાજસ્થાન અને ઉત્તર પ્રદેશમાં પણ લખજો. નાનાં બાળકો, વૃદ્ધો, સ્ત્રીઓ બધાં જ આવે; કોઈ રહી ન જાય.” તે પ્રમાણે લાધા ઠક્કરને સૂચના આપી પોતે માણકી ઉપર બિરાજ્યા. કાઠી ભક્તો પણ પોતપોતાના અશ્વો ઉપર બેસી ગયા. સૌ રાહ જોઈ રહ્યા હતા, માણકી ઊપડે એટલે પાછળ નીકળીએ.
નથી જાતી દરબારમાંથી ઘોડી
મહારાજે લગામ પકડી, સૌને ‘જય સ્વામિનારાયણ’ કહ્યા. ચોકડું ખેંચ્યું. માણકીના પેટમાં પેંગડું માર્યું. પરંતુ માણકી સ્થિર થઈ ગઈ હતી! મહારાજને થયું, “કેમ માણકી આજે ડગ ભરતી નથી? રોજ તો ઇશારામાં સમજી જાય છે અને આજે એને શું થયું? કેમ હઠ પકડી?”
મહારાજે ફરી ચોકડું ખેંચ્યું. જોરથી પેટમાં પેંગડું ભરાવ્યું. નાજા જોગિયા પણ તેના ઘોડા ઉપરથી ઊતરી માણકી પાસે આવ્યા. તેની પીઠ થાબડી છતાં માણકી અચળ હતી! સૌ જોઈ રહ્યા. મહારાજની આજ્ઞામાં સદા વર્તનારી, મહારાજની મરજીને જાણનારી માણકીને આજે આ શું થયું? નાજા જોગિયાએ હાથમાં લગામ લઈ, આગળ જઈ, માણકીને દોરવાનો પ્રયત્ન કર્યો પણ માણકી તો સ્થિર જ હતી. જાણે તેના ડાબલા ધરતીમાં ચોંટી ન ગયા હોય! મહારાજ વિચારમાં પડી ગયા. કોઈકે કહ્યું, “પાછળ જરા સોટી ધીરેથી અડાડો.”
મહારાજે તરત જ કહ્યું, “ના, એવું કરાય નહીં. એ તો મુક્ત છે. અહીંથી પરિયાણ નથી કરતી તેનું કારણ અમે સમજી ગયા. અમારા કરતાં તેને સંદેશો વહેલો પહોંચી ગયો છે.” એટલું કહીને મહારાજ નીચે ઊતર્યા. મહારાજ સીધા લાડુબા, જીવુબા પાસે ગયા. બધી બાઈઓ આથમણા બારના ઓરડાની જેર ઉપર ઊભી હતી. મહારાજ ઓશરી ઉપર ચઢી ગયા. મહારાજે જીવુબા તથા લાડુબાને હાથ જોડ્યા. પછી કહ્યું, “તમારી મરજી આ માણકી જાણી ગઈ છે. અમે વરતાલ જઈએ છીએ. તમને છેવટનું મળાયું નથી, રજા લીધી નથી તેથી માણકી અમને જવા દેતી નથી. તમે તેને વૃત્તિથી બાંધી લીધી છે. અમને તેણે હઠથી રોકી લીધા છે. માટે હવે રાજી થઈ રજા આપો તો વરતાલ જઈએ. ત્યાં મોટો રંગોત્સવ કરવો છે, હજારો હરિભક્તો આવશે, સૌને બ્રહ્માનંદ કરાવવો છે, તમને અહીં બેઠાં સુખ આવશે. માટે, માવડી! રાજીથી રજા આપો!”
લાડુબા, જીવુબા તથા બધી સ્ત્રીઓ મહારાજના શબ્દો સાંભળી હસવા લાગી. જીવુબાએ મહારાજને પગે લાગીને કહ્યું, “પ્રભુ! પધારો. પણ પાછા વહેલા ગઢપુર આવી જજો. માણકી તો અમારી બેન છે એટલે તે તો અમારી ભેર રાખે જ. આપ તો નમેરા થઈને ચાલ્યા જતા હતા. પણ હવે સિધાવો!”

Prasang
(1) Māṇkīe chaḍyā re Mohan Vanmaḷī
Samvat 1872. Shriji Maharaj stayed in Gadhada for 15 days. During this period, he also visited Jiva Khachar’s darbār and spoke there just as he spoke in Dada Khachar’s darbār. He denounced ego and craving for tastes; yet, he also served the Kāthi devotees their favorite foods. The Kāthi devotees were much more vigilant in recognizing their nature, as they had company of Maharaj for quite some time now. They were freed from addictions and indulgences.
It was time for Maharaj to depart for Vartal. The Kāthis who were to accompany Maharaj gathered. Jiva Khachar and his son Mulu Khachar arrived. Naja Jogiya had Maharaj’s Manki ready. Maharaj came and sat on the cushioned seat and said, “During festivals like these, sadhus and devotees come, everyone has their darshan, they intermingle and increase brotherhood. Sometimes their nature clashes but they learn to let go and rid themselves of their bad habits. All of this happens easily because of satsang, which cannot be easily done through other means. This is the very fruit of satsang. Furthermore, when one attains the company of a true Sant, then one truly understands my form. One would never believe that I am far away. One acquires the wisdom that I am always near. One who has attained this level of gnān gains the conviction that God and his Akshardham are always near through antardrashti.”
After his discourse, Maharaj called Ladha Thakkar and said, “Write a letter to Ramdas Swami and tell him to send 20 to 25 bullock carts full of kesudā flowers. I’ll be in Vartal 5 days in advance of the festival.” Maharaj made other such arrangements for the celebration.
Then, he mounted Manki and the Kāthis did the same. Maharaj pulled the reigns and kicked his stirrup but Manki froze. Maharaj wondered why Manki is not riding today. Everyday, Manki understood the wishes of Maharaj and would start riding. Today, it became stubborn.
Maharaj forcefully kicked his stirrup and pulled the reigns. Naja Jogiya also got down from his horse and came near Manki. Yet Manki was resolute in not moving. Maharaj’s mare always followed his wishes; but today was a different story. Naja Jogiya took the reigns and went in front of Manki to draw her forward. But Manki was unmovable. It was as if her hooves were stuck to the ground. Someone suggested to poke her with a stick from the back.
Maharaj immediately said, “No, we cannot do that. She is a mukta. I know why she is not embarking from here. She received other orders before I gave my orders.” Maharaj got down and went straight to Laduba and Jivuba. Maharaj said, “Manki knows your wish. You have held her with your mind. I am going to Vartal. I was not able to meet with you and ask for your leave. So now, happily give me permission to leave so I can go to Vartal. I want to celebrate Rangotsav there. Thousands of devotees will come. I want to give them all the bliss of Brahma. You will experience that bliss while sitting here. Please happily give me permission.”
Laduba, Jivuba, and the other women laughed hearing Maharaj’s words. They bowed to Maharaj and gave him permission to leave, “But, Maharaj. Please return back quickly. Manki is our sister so she took our side this time. ”
