(૧) યોગીજી તમારાં દર્શનથી સુખચેન અમોને ખૂબ મળે

બરાબર આ જ સમયે, લિલિયા પાસે દાડમામાં, સમૈયા-ઉત્સવોમાં અનોખી શૈલીમાં મહારાજના પ્રસંગો તથા સત્સંગનો મહિમા વર્ણવી, ઇતિહાસની દિલચસ્પી લગાડનાર ભક્તરાજ નારણજી મહારાજ અંતિમ અવસ્થામાં હતા, પણ ‘યોગીજી મહારાજ’નું તેમનું સ્મરણ-રટણ ચાલુ હતું. વારે વારે સ્વામીશ્રીને યાદ કરે. તેથી તેમના દીકરા ફૂલચંદભાઈએ તેમના ખોળામાં યોગીજી મહારાજની મૂર્તિ મૂકી. તે જોઈ કહે, “પ્રગટ રોટલા વગર ભૂખ ભાંગે નહિ.”

છેવટે ફૂલચંદભાઈ સ્વામીશ્રીને તેડવા રાજકોટ આવ્યા. બધી વાત કરી.

ચોમાસાના દિવસો. રસ્તા સારા નહિ. છતાં સ્વામીશ્રી ભાનુભાઈની મોટરમાં તા. ૧૫-૯-’૫૮ સાંજે જવા તૈયાર થયા. ઈશ્વરચરણ સ્વામી અને એક સંત સાથે હતા. પૂજા લેવા સ્વામીશ્રીએ કહ્યું. ગોંડલ દર્શન કરી આગળ નીકળ્યા. ત્યાં મોટરનું બંપર તૂટી ગયું. મંદિરે પાછા આવ્યા. ભાનુભાઈ રાજકોટ જઈ સારી ટૅક્સી તથા સ્વામીશ્રીના પત્તર વગેરે લઈને આવ્યા.

બીજે દિવસે વહેલી સવારે ૫-૩૦ વાગે નીકળ્યા. આગલા દિવસનો થાક, તેથી થોડી વાર સ્વામીશ્રી પોઢ્યા. પછી કથાવાર્તા કરતાં આગળ ચાલ્યા. ૧૨૦ કિ.મિ. જવાનું હતું. બાબરા હરિભક્તોને મળીને, દાડમાથી એક માઈલ દૂર સડક ઉપર ગાડી ઊભી રાખી.

હવે રસ્તો કાચો હતો. ભાનુભાઈ તથા સંતે એક-એક પોટલું લીધું. એક પોટલું મેં ઊંચક્યું ને બીજા હાથે સ્વામીશ્રીને ટેકો આપ્યો. વરસાદ ઘણો પડી ગયો હતો. તેથી કાચા રસ્તામાં જ્યાં-ત્યાં કાંટા-કાંકરા, ઉપર આવી ગયા હતા, પણ સ્વામીશ્રી ઝડપથી ચાલતા હતા. વચમાં મારા હાથમાંથી પોટલું લેવા તૈયાર થઈ ગયા અને કહે, “અવસ્થા થઈ એટલે સેવક જોઈએ; નહિ તો અમે પણ મણ મણના ભાર ઉપાડી ચાલતા જતા!”

ઘડીક પાણીનાં ખાબોચિયાં આવે તો ઘડીક કઠણ જમીન આવે. એટલે ચાલવાના ભોમિયા હોય એમ, ઝડપથી બાવળની વાડ ખસેડી સ્વામીશ્રી ખેતરના શેઢે ચાલવા લાગ્યા. રસ્તો કપાતો હતો પણ ઓછો થતો નહોતો. ભૂલા પડ્યા એમ લાગ્યું. તેથી વળી નીચે ગાડાના ચીલે ચાલવા માંડ્યું. જમીન પોચી હતી. પગ બહુ ખૂંપતા હતા. તેથી સ્વામીશ્રીએ જોડા કાઢી નાખ્યા ને ધોતિયાનો કછોટો મારીને ચાલવા લાગ્યા. કાંકરા વાગતા હતા, પણ તેની પરવા કર્યા વગર સ્વામીશ્રી ઝડપથી ચાલતા હતા. નારણજી મહારાજને જલદી ભેગા થવાની ઉતાવળ ચાલમાં જણાતી હતી. રસ્તામાં કોઈને પૂછીએ, “કેટલું દૂર?” તો કહે, “એક ખેતરવાં,” પણ અંતર જાણે ઓછું થાય જ નહિ. તેથી સ્વામીશ્રી હસતા જાય ને અડવાણે પગે આગળ ધપે જાય.

એવામાં વળી વરસાદ શરૂ થયો. સ્વામીશ્રી કહે, “રહી જા,” પણ ચાલુ રહ્યો. પગ કાદવમાં એટલા બધા ખૂંપતા હતા કે અમે બંને એકબીજાના આધારે જ આગળ વધતા હતા. ગામમાં આવ્યા. હાથ-પગ ધોયા. ત્યાં સમાચાર મળ્યા કે નારણજી મહારાજ તો સવારે ૪-૦૦ વાગે દેહ મૂકી ગયા. તે જાણી સ્વામીશ્રી ઉદાસ થઈ ગયા.

વરસાદ ચાલુ જ હતો. પલળતાં પલળતાં ગામના સીમાડે સ્મશાને પહોંચ્યા. નારણજી મહારાજનાં પાલખીમાં દર્શન કર્યાં. સ્વામીશ્રીએ દંડવત્ કર્યા. આરતી ઉતારી. ધૂન કરી સૌને શાંતિ આપતાં કહે, “નારણજી મહારાજ તો ગયા જ નથી. એ તો છે, છે ને છે જ. મારે દર્શનનો ઉમંગ હતો તે પૂરો થયો.”

પછી સૌને વિધિ કરવાની આજ્ઞા કરી, ગામમાં આવ્યા. વરસાદ ચાલુ હતો. સૌ સંપૂર્ણ પલળી ગયા હતા. સ્વામીશ્રી વરસાદ સાથે વાત કરવા લાગ્યા, “હમણાં રહી જા. અમને કનડ મા. તું સેવા કરવા આવ્યો તો ભલે આવ્યો, પણ હમણાં રહી જા. મહારાજ તારી ઉપર રાજી થશે.”

પછી અમને સૌને કહે, “મને નારણજી મહારાજે લાડુ ખવરાવીને સાધુ થવા મોકલ્યો હતો. મને આશીર્વાદ આપ્યા હતા કે ‘સુખી થઈશ અને હજારો મુક્તો તારા શિષ્યો થશે.’ આજે ૫૦ વર્ષ થયાં. એટલે મારે તેમનાં દર્શનની ઇચ્છા હતી, તો દર્શન થઈ ગયાં. એક મહાન પુરુષ સત્સંગમાંથી ગયા. બહુ સમર્થ હતા. તેમની યાદશક્તિ જબરદસ્ત. દાદાખાચરના વિવાહનું તો આબેહૂબ વર્ણન કરે. મારા જીવનપ્રાણ હતા.”

વરસતા વરસાદમાં, કીચડમાં ચાલતાં ચાલતાં સ્વામીશ્રીએ એક ભક્તને ભાવાંજલિ આપી. પોતે જે પરિશ્રમ ને કષ્ટ વેઠી અહીં પહોંચ્યા હતા, એ જ એમના હૃદયોદ્‌ગારની પ્રતીતિ હતી.

મંદિરે આવી નાહ્યા. જવાની ઉતાવળ હતી, પણ સ્વામીશ્રીએ અચાનક યાદ કરાવ્યું કે, “સાથે ઠાકોરજી છે, તે ભૂખ્યા રહેશે.” તરત મેં ખીચડી, શાક ને રોટલી બનાવ્યાં. ઠાકોરજીને થાળ ધરી, સ્વામીશ્રીને જમાડ્યા. “આવી સાદી રસોઈ રોજ હોય તો મજા પડે. આ તો રોજ મિષ્ટાન્ન.” એમ જમતાં જમતાં પોતાની રુચિ જણાવી. જો કે પોતે કદી મીઠાઈ લેતા જ નહિ.

થોડો આરામ કરી, નારણજી મહારાજે જ્યાં દેહ મૂક્યો હતો તે ઘરમાં પધાર્યા. પથારી સામે તેમણે સ્વામીશ્રીની મૂર્તિ દર્શન માટે રખાવી હતી. ભાઈશંકરભાઈએ તે સ્વામીશ્રીને બતાવી. તે જોઈ સ્વામીશ્રી કહે, “આ તો શ્રીજીમહારાજ.” એમ બે વાર બોલ્યા. ગુણાતીતાનંદ સ્વામી નથુ ભટ્ટને ત્યાં આવતા. તેથી સ્વામીશ્રી કહે, “આ તો ગુણાતીત ગોકુળિયું ગામ.”

ગાડામાં બેસી સડકે આવ્યા. મોટરમાં કથાવાર્તા કરતાં ૪-૦૦ વાગે રાજકોટ પહોંચ્યા. ભક્તનું સાચું રટણ ભગવાનની શાશ્વત સંનિધિ કરાવી આપે છે, એની આ પ્રતીતિ હતી.

અહીંથી એક દિવસ, અમદાવાદમાં ચંપકભાઈ શેઠને ત્યાં ભાગવત-પારાયણની પૂર્ણાહુતિમાં હાજરી આપી, સ્વામીશ્રીએ સારંગપુર પધારી, જળઝીલણીનો સમૈયો જાળિયે ધરે કર્યો.

ગામમાં પધરામણીઓ કરતાં સ્વામીશ્રી હકાભાઈના ઘરે પધરામણીએ આવ્યા. પૂજા-વિધિ પછી હકાભાઈનાં માતુશ્રીએ કહેવડાવ્યું, “બાપાને કહો, ‘પ્રસાદીનો લીંબડો સુકાઈ ગયો છે તે સજીવન કરે.’”

સ્વામીશ્રીને વાત કરી, ત્યારે લીંબડા પાસે ગયા અને થડ પર હાથ મૂક્યો. પછી ધીરેથી લીંબડાને બાથમાં લઈને મળ્યા અને બોલ્યા, “હવે લીંબડો ફરી સંબંધને પામ્યો. નવજીવન મળશે.”

થોડા જ સમયમાં લીંબડો સજીવન થઈ ગયો અને લીલાંછમ પાનની કૂંપળો ફૂટવા લાગી.

આ લીંબડો શ્રીજીમહારાજે, જે લીંબડાની ડાળને હાથ અડાડી પ્રસાદીનો કર્યો હતો, તેની ડાળ રોપીને ઉછેરેલો. તે ફરી સ્વામીશ્રી દ્વારા શ્રીજીમહારાજના સંબંધને પામ્યો અને નવપલ્લવિત થઈ ગયો.

You Are an Ocean of Compassion

Nāranji Mahārāj was in his final days. He was a great orator who sparked satsang in Dādamā by spreading the mahimā of satsang and narrating incidents from Shriji Maharaj’s life in his unique style during samaiyās and utsavs. In such a critical time, the only name on his tongue was ‘Yogiji Maharaj’. He often remembered him. His son, Fulchandbhai, put a murti of Yogiji Maharaj in his lap. Nāranji Mahārāj said, “To satisfy your hunger, you need real food.”

Fulchandbhai understood that his father longed for Yogiji Maharaj’s physical presence. He went to Rajkot to call Swamishri and explain the situation. It was the monsoon season. The roads at that time were bad. Yet Swamishri still got into Bhanubhai’s car in the evening for Dādamā. Ishwarcharan Swami and another sadhu accompanied Swamishri. Swamishri advised to take their puja along. They did darshan at Gondal and drove onward. On the way, the bumper of the car fell apart, so they came back to the mandir. Bhanubhai went to Rajkot to fetch a good taxi.

The next day, Swamishri left at 5:30 am. Swamishri slept a little because of his fatigue from the previous day. Then, he discoursed some. They needed to drive 120 kilometers. They reached Bābarā, where they met a few devotees. From there, they drove on and halted one mile away from Dādamā. The path forward was unpaved. Walking by foot, each sadhu and Bhanubhai carried their belongings (in a potlu). Ishwarcharan Swami carried one potlu while holding Swamishri’s hand to support him. It had rained heavily the day before, making the path scattered with sharp pebbles and thorns. Yet, Swamishri was walking speedily. He was even ready to grab the potlu from Ishwarcharan Swami and said, “I am getting old now. Otherwise, I used to walk with 20kg of weight.”

Potholes of water were everywhere along the way. Swamishri had experience walking by foot, so he speedily walked along the farmlands. They were treading forward, yet the distance seemed not to decrease. They thought maybe they lost the way. Their sandals were getting stuck in the muddy farmland, therefore, Swamishri took off his sandals, raised his dhotiyu and started walking. He disregarded the stabbing pain from stepping on pebbles. His only thought was to reach Nāranji Mahārāj. Someone asked along the way, “How far?” He said, “One farmland.” Yet the distance seemed the same. Swamishri laughed and walked along.

Suddenly, it started to rain again. Swamishri spoke to the rain, “Stop.” But rain continued. The feet were getting stuck in the mud so much so that Ishwarcharan Swami and Swamishri had to walk with each other’s support. The group reached Dādamā and washed their hands and feet. But they received news that Nāranji Mahārāj had passed away at 4 am. Despair could be seen on Swamishri’s face.

The rain continued. Drenched in rain, they reached the cremation grounds at the border of the village. They had darshan of Nāranji Mahārāj in his pālkhi. Swamishri prostrated and performed his ārti. Then, he sang dhun and consoled everyone, saying, “Nāranji Mahārā has not left. He is still here, still here, still here. I had hoped to have his darshan and that was finally fulfilled.”

Swamishri then had given āgnā to perform his final rites and came back to the village. Rain was still pouring. Everyone was drenched. Swamishri started speaking to the rain, “Please stop now. Do not get in our way. If you have come to serve, that is fine. But for now, please stop. Maharaj will be happy with you.”

Then, he said to us, “Nāranji Mahārāj gave me lāddus to eat and then sent me to become a sadhu. He blessed me saying, ‘You will be happy and thousands will follow you.’ It has been 50 years since then. That is why I had wished for his darshan and that was fulfilled. One great purush has left Satsang. He was very versatile. He had a powerful memory. He would vividly narrate Dada Khachar’s wedding incident. He was my lifeline.”

In the midst of rain, walking in mud, Swamishri had honored one devotee. He himself had bore such burden trying to reach this village.

Then, Swamishri came to the mandir and bathed. They were in a rush to leave. However, Swamishri remembered that Thakorji must be hungry. Ishwarcharan Swami made khichadi, cooked vegetables, and rotlā. Thāl was offered to Thakorji and Swamishri ate. “If we had simple food like this everyday, we would be thrilled. On the contrary, we have sweets every day.” So saying, Swamishri uttered his preference for simple food while eating. After some rest, Swamishri went to the house where Nāranji Mahārāj left his mortal body. Near the bed, Swamishri’s murti was kept for darshan. Bhaishankarbhai showed that murti to Swamishri. Seeing the murti, Swamishri said twice, “This is Shriji Maharaj.”

They rode in a bullock cart to get back to the road. Then, they reached Rajkot by car at 4 pm while discoursing on the way. Such was Swamishri’s compassion upon all those who are association with Maharaj or Swami. He went to such lengths to fulfill their wish.
