પ્રસંગ

(૧) જોગી તારી વાણીની બલિહાર

જોગી તારી વાણીની બલિહાર

... “શું આવ્યું?” એમ સંતો-હરિભક્તોનાં નામ દઈને પણ એમને પૂછવાની બહુ ટેવ એટલે સૌ જાગ્રત રહે. જેને એક વાર પણ સ્વામીશ્રી યાદ કરે, બોલાવે, પૂછે, અરે! આંખનો ઇશારો કરે અથવા દૃષ્ટિ પરોવીને જુએ, તેનો આનંદ સમાય નહિ. આખો દિવસ ઉત્સાહમાં ને મસ્તીમાં રહે.

સ્વામીશ્રીનો એ દિવ્ય સંબંધ, એમનું હેતથી બોલાવવું, ચલાવવું, જોવું, એ દરેકના હૃદય ઉપર સુવર્ણાક્ષરે અંકિત થઈ જાય. જીવનનું એક અવિસ્મરણીય સંભારણું બની જાય.

ઝોલામાંથી કોઈને જાગ્રત કરે, ત્યારે સ્વામીશ્રી ઘણી વાર એક સાખી બોલતા:

‘ડોલા ખાઈને ડગમગે, હરણ ખાઈ ગયાં બગબગે,

સવારે ઊઠીને જોયું તો કો’ક છોડવો ફગફગે.’

એમ કહી, રખેવાળ ઊંઘી રહ્યો ને હરણિયા ખેતર ખાઈ ગયાં એ વાત લડાવીને કહી.

સમયે સમયે સૌને ભગવદ્‌વાર્તા સાંભળવા સ્વામીશ્રી સૌને સાબદા કરે. જૂની કાઠિયાવાડી કહેવતો ને પંક્તિઓનો ઉલ્લેખ કરી તેના સંદર્ભની વાતો સ્વામીશ્રી આબેહૂબ રજૂ કરતા. ઓલિયા સંત તરીકે જાણીતા સ્વામીશ્રી સમાજ-જીવનના અને લોક-જીવનના પણ ઊંડા ને માર્મિક અભ્યાસી હતા તે કથાવાર્તામાં ને તેમની સાથેના વાર્તાલાપમાં સહેજે જણાઈ આવે.

સભામાં ભલેને પાંચસો, હજાર કે તેથી વધુ માણસો બેઠા હોય, પણ દરેકે દરેક સભાજન સાથે કથાવાર્તા દરમ્યાન સ્વામીશ્રીનો વ્યક્તિગત હૃદયતાર સંધાતો. તે એમની બહુમુખી પ્રતિભા, દિવ્યતા ને લોકમાનસ ઓળખી ભગવદ્‌વાર્તા કરવાની એક અજોડ કળા ને સિદ્ધિ હતી. ત્યારે ઘણા અનુભવી સંતો-ભક્તો કહેતા કે આ સ્વામીશ્રી નથી બોલતા, પણ એમનામાં રહીને સાક્ષાત્ ભગવાન જ બોલે છે. એટલે જ હજારોનાં હૃદયને એમની વાણી ભેદી શકે છે. અને ઉપનિષદનાં વચનોનું તેઓ પ્રમાણ આપતા કે સાક્ષાત્કાર પામેલા પુરુષનાં વચનો સાંભળી હૃદયગ્રંથિ ભેદાય છે, સંશયો છિન્ન થાય છે, કર્મો ક્ષીણ થાય છે.

આ વાણીના જાદુએ આબાલવૃદ્ધ સૌને ઘેલું લગાડ્યું હતું. એ જાદુગારી મર્માળી વાણીને કાગ બાપુએ અપૂર્વ કાવ્યઅર્ઘ્ય અર્પી પોતાની ભક્તિ અદા કરી હતી. કોઈને આ વાણીમાં ‘વરસંતો મેઘ મલાર’ અનુભવાતો, તો કોઈને ‘વાણીમાં અમૃત’ જણાતું, કોઈ ભાવિક એ અવધૂતની અલગારી બોલીમાં ‘વહાલાની વાંસળી’નો સૂર પણ સાંભળતો. અને એટલે જ કવિ કાગ એ વાણીને વારંવાર બલિહારી જતાં લખે છે:

જોગી તારી વાણીની બલિહાર, એ છે ત્રિભુવનની તારણહાર... ꠶ટેક

સાદી ને સોયલી સહજાનંદની, આપેલી અમૃતધાર જી,

મુડદા^† માથે પડી મસાણે, બોલે જય જયકાર... જોગી꠶ ૧

જીભ ન બોલે બુદ્ધિ ન બોલે, બોલે ન વેદ વિસ્તાર જી,

આતમને તારા વાચા ઊપજી, ઝીલે સકળ સંસાર... જોગી꠶ ૨

અધમ ઉદ્ધારન પતિત પાવન, ખળકે ગંગાધાર જી,

જેના ઉપર એનો ધોધ પડે, એનો બેડલો થાય છે પાર... જોગી꠶ ૩

કાળા રંગનો ‘કાગડો’ એની, લીધી એ સ્વામીએ સાર જી,

કાળો હતો ને બન્યો ઊજળો, હંસ ભણી અણસાર... જોગી꠶ ૪

(1) Jogī tārī vāṇīnī balihār

Kaag Bapu

Yogiji Maharaj had a habit of asking: “What was just said?” He kept everyone awake and alert by asking questions like that. If he ever remembered someone once, called them once, or even looked at them once, then that person could not contain that joy inside of him. He would be ecstatic the whole day.

Any way someone became connected to Swamishri - calling them lovingly, looking at them, etc. - would be etched in golden letters in their heart and became a part of their unforgettable memory.

Sometimes when Swamishri woke up someone dozing off, he would say the following couplet:

‘Dolā khāyine dagmage, haran khāi gayā bagbage,

Savāre uthine joyu to, ko’k chhodavo fagfage.’

Then, he would tell the story behind this couplet about the owner of the farm who fell asleep and the deer came and ate the crop.

From time to time, Swamishri would energize everyone to listen to God’s talks. He recreated the ways of the olden days with his old proverbs and tales. When speaking with him and listening to his talks, one would realize that Swamishri thoroughly knew the ways of society and their living situations.

Whether there were 500 or whether there were 1,000 sitting in the assembly, everyone felt a connection with Swamishri during his discourses. He had an unparalleled talent of speaking to the audience and captivating them with his personality, divinity, and knack for recognizing their nature. Some would even say that this is not Swamishri speaking, but it is God himself that is present through him. And this was the reason that he was able to pierce people’s hearts with his words. He often cited the Upanishads to support his talks - that when one listens to a Purush who has oneness with God, then they will become free of doubts, their desires will melt, and their karmas will degenerate.

The mesmerizing speech captivated young and the old. Kāg Bāpu had made an offering of verses that pays homage to Swamishri’s speech. Some found his speech to be like rain showers, some amrut... Kāg Bāpu sacrifices himself to Swamishri’s speech in this kirtan:
