Translation
(1) Ek vāt anūp amūlya karu chhu kahevātaṇu
The Chosath Padi is a dialog between the writer Nishkulanand Swami and the reader or singer - you! He is telling you, explaining to you, advising you on many important topics, such as recognizing a true Sant from an asant (a false sant), following the path of a sadhu and attempting to defeat all the base instincts, mahimā of attaining the manifest form of God and rejoicing in that attainment, etc.
In these first few verses, Nishkulanand Swami explains the characteristics of a genuine Sant.
Ek vāt anūp amol, karu chhu kahevātaṇu;
Paṇ manbhāī kahe chhe ma bolya, ghoḷyu na kahevu ghaṇu. 1
(1) I wish to tell you something that is incomparable and invaluable; but my mind keeps saying, “Don’t speak! Let it go, don’t say anymore.”
Paṇ vaṇkahye jo vigat, paḍe kem parne;
Sant asantamā ek mat, nische rahe narne. 2
(2) However, without saying a word, how will others know the difference between a genuine Sant and an fraudulent sant? Certainly, others will consider a Sant and a fraudulent sant as the same.
Māṭe kahyā vinā na kaḷāy, sahu te suṇī lahīe;
Moṭā santno kahyo mahimāy, te sant kone kahīe. 3
(3) Therefore, without telling you, you will not be able to recognize the difference; so listen carefully to the greatness of a great Sant, whose greatness is sung (in the scriptures).
Ke’ chhe sant sevye sare kāj, em chhe āgammā;
Suṇī Nishkuḷānand te āj, sahu chhe udyammā. 4
(4) The shāstras (āgam) mention that by serving the great Sant, one accomplishes all their tasks (attains moksha). After listening to that glory of the Sant, Nishkulanand Swami says all endeavoring to understand his glory.
