Translation

(1) Kahyā khaṭ dash pad ā khoḷī re sahu janne samjāvāne

Kahyā khaṭ dash pad ā khoḷī re, sahu janne samjāvāne;

 Kahyu tan manmā me toḷī re, jem chhe tem jaṇāvāne... 1

(1) I have written these 16 verses to explain to others (the distinction between a Sant and an asant). I have weighed my words (thoughtfully considered what I should say) to explain it as it is to others.

Koī pīyūsh rasne pāī re, uchhere nar uragne;

 Toy nirvikh te na thāy re, vādhe vikh enā angne... 2

(2) Even if one raises a snake by feeding it amrut, the snake will not become free of poison. On the contrary, it will become even more poisonous.

Jone jevo guṇ je bīje re, ṭevo teh jaṇāve chhe;

 Tenī koṭi jatan jo kīje re, toy te shu badlāve chhe... 3

(3) Whatever seed is planted, that is the type of plant that will grow. There is no way to change what will grow with the care provided to the plant.¹

Evā jherīlā jan jāṇī re, tarat tene tajī devā;

 Suṇī Nishkuḷānandnī vāṇī re, shuddh santnī kariye sevā... 4

(4) One should abandon the company of such who are poisonous. Listen to Nishkulanand Swami and serve the genuine and pure Sant.

1. Whatever characteristics one possesses, those are the characteristics that person will exhibit. Those who are poisonous - or malicious - will not abandon their vices. The analogy using plants is also given by Shriji Maharaj in Vachanamrut Gadhada III-14. Maharaj says, “There are two types of people in this world: godly and demonic. Of these, those who are demonic will fall from Satsang, despite being exceptionally intelligent; whereas those who are godly will never fall from Satsang, even though they may not be intelligent. For example, if one sows a seed of chilli or the seed of a neem tree or the seed of a shingadiyo vachhnāg plant, and one waters them daily with sweet water, the chillies will still turn out to be pungent; the neem tree, bitter; and the shingadiyo vachhnāg plant, poisonous. Why? Because the very seeds themselves are such. On the other hand, if one sows sugarcane, the juice of the sugarcane will still be sweet despite treating it with compost from the leaves of a neem tree and watering it with bitter water. In the same manner, godly people will always adhere to the path of God, and demonic people will always turn away from the path of God.”
