Translation
(1) Eh vinā moṭāī je anya kharī te paṇ khoṭī nathī re
Eh vinā moṭāī je anya, kharī te paṇ khoṭī nathī re;
Te to suṇī liyo sahujan, te paṇ kahu kathī re... 1
(1) It is true, there are other types of greatness in the world as well. Listen, as I describe these different types of greatness.
Jem pankhīmā moṭero ghuḍ, jhāḍmā tāḍ laīe re;
Jem jaḷmā moṭero jhuḍ, pashumā pāḍo kahīe re... 2
(2) Among birds, owls are great. Among trees, palms are great. In lakes, crocodiles are great, and among animals, male buffaloes are considered great.
Sarpmā moṭero Takshak, vīnchchhīmā ṭhākarīyo vaḷī re;
Eto moṭap dukhdāyak, samjo sahu maḷī re... 3
(3) Among snakes, the Takshak snake is greatest as is the thākariyo among the scorpions. Everyone understand that all these types of greatness are the cause of misery.†
Em jāṇyā vinā jagmāy, upāy nathī ūgaryāno re;
Kahe Nishkuḷānand te nyāy, mano ke nav mano re... 4
(4) It is necessary to understand this in order to be liberated from the bondage of this world. Nishkulanand Swami says, “Whether you believe it or not, this is the way things are.”
†These types of greatness bring misery because they are negative. For example, an owl is a symbol of a unfortunate omen. A Takshak is poisonous and its bite brings death. A scorpion bite cause much suffering. The word for male buffalo (pādo) is a derogatory word when applied to a person.
