(1) Tan dhan jātā harijan hoy te haribhaktīthī nav chaḷe
Tan dhan jātā, harijan hoy te haribhaktīthī nav chaḷe;
Jem nār sati, sarve mamtā chhoḍī pati sange baḷe...
A true devotee of God would never fall back in his devotion to God, even if he were to lose his body or wealth; just as a sati discards all possessiveness of this world to burn with her husband on the cremation pyre.
Juo Prahlāde paṇ nav chhoḍyu,
nij tāttaṇu sagpaṇ troḍyu;
Draḍh karī Mohan sang man joḍyu... tan 1
(1) Look at Prahlad: he never quit worshiping God, despite opposition from his father. He broke his relationship with his father instead and firmly fixed his mind on God.
Juo Harischandre Hari nav tajīyā,
par gher vechāī Prabhune bhajīyā;
Tyāre Mohannā manmā rajiyā... tan 2
(2) King Harishchandra1 never abandoned God, despite being sold off into slavery. Because of this steadfastness, God became pleased with him.
Juo Balīnu man nav hārīyu,
guru vachan hrude nav dhāriyu;
Tan man dhan Prabhu par vāriyu... tan 3
(3) King Bali’s mind did not lose in pleasing God. He went against his guru’s advice (of not granting any wishes to Vaman Bhagwan). Instead, he gave his all - mind, body, and wealth - to God.
Evī draḍhtā dhāre te mukhīyā,
te koī kāḷe nav hoy dukhiyā;
Kahe Muktānand te mahā sukhiyā... tan 4
(4) Those who have such firm resoluteness are foremost. They never experience misery. Muktanand Swami says they are extremely happy.
1. Harishchandra’s story is narrated by Nishkulanand Swami in Dhirajakhyan: Kadavu 18-25
