Translation
(1) Re shir sāṭe Naṭvarne varīe
In this kirtan, Brahmanand Swami is using “war” and “fighting” merely as a symbol of renunciation, which is like a war because family and society can go against one’s resolve to renounce for Bhagwan. Moreover, the war can be in the mind because renunciation can fade over time.
Re shir sāṭe Naṭvarne varīe,
One should “marry” Bhagwan prepared to lose one’s head.
re pāchhā te paglā nav bharīe...
One should not take steps back (in this resolve).
Re antardrashṭi karī khoḷyu,
I found through introspection...
re dahāpaṇ jhājhu nav ḍoḷyu,
I did not allow too much logic to dissuade me.
E Hari sāru māthu ghoḷyu... re shir 1
I sacrificed my life for Bhagwan.
Re samjyā vinā nav nīsarīe,
One should not come out [to fight this war] without understanding [the consequences].
re raṇ madhye jaīne nav ḍarīe,
One should not fall back in the middle of battle.
Tyā mukh pāṇī rākhī marīe... re shir 2
One should die there (in war) with bravery.
Re pratham chaḍe shuro thaīne,
One who is prepared to fight in the beginning...
re bhāge pāchho raṇmā jaīne,
…and then runs from the battlefield,
Te shu jīve bhundu mukh laīne... re shir 3
How can he show his face and live?
Re pahelu ja manmā trevaḍīe,
Make a firm determination in your mind from the beginning.
re hore hore juddhe nav chaḍīe,
One should not join the war hastily (without thinking through).
Jo chadīe to kaṭkā thaī paḍīe... re shir 4
And when you do join this fight, be ready to die for it.
Re rang sahit Harine raṭīe,
One should take the name of Bhagwan with fervor.
re hāk vāge pāchhā nav haṭīe,
When one hears the call of war, one should not turn back.
Brahmānand kahe tyā marī maṭīe... re shir 5
Brahmanand Swami says one should die fighting.
