Translation

(1) Shīdne rahīe re kangāl re santo

Sadguru Nishkulanand Swami

In this series of kirtans from Dhirajākhyān, Nishkulanand Swami is speaking to those who are walking the path of a sadhu. He explains to those who have chosen that path of a sadhu that, despite having no physical or worldly wealth, they are wealthy because they have attained Brahma and Parabrahma. After attaining them, if one still yearns for materialistic happiness, they are not true devotees.

Shīdne rahīe re kangāl re, santo shīdne rahīe re kangāl;

Why should we remain poor, santo? (Why should we believe we are poor?)

Jyāre maḷyo mahā moṭo māl re, santo shīdne rahīe kangāl...

We have attained the most valuation item (God).

Pūraṇ Brahma Purushottam pāmī, khāmī na rahī ek vāl;

We have attained Brahma and Parabrahma. There is no shortcoming in our attainment, not even a slight.

Amal sahit vāt ocharvī, mānī manmā nihāl re... santo 1

We should speak clearly of what we have attained, believing we have accomplished what we needed to.

Rājānī rāṇī bhamī bhīkh māge, hāle kangālne hāl;

The king’s queen wanders begging for food and carries herself like a poor woman.

Ghar lajāmaṇī rāṇī jāṇī rājā, khījī pāḍe vaḷī khāl re... santo 2

Realizing she would bring shame to his status, the king let her go.

Tem bhakta Bhagwān nā thaīne, rahe vishaymā behāl;

Similarly, a devotee who remains miserable in enjoying the sensual pleasures...

Te to pāmar nar jāṇvā pūrā, haribhaktinī dharī chhe dhāl re... santo 3

... should be known as completely low status, only posing to be devotees of God.

Tan man āsh tajī tuchchh jāṇī, kādhu samjī e sāl;

A devotee of God considers desires of the body and mind as trivial and has rid himself of such desires.

Nishkuḷānand e bhakta Harinā, bījā bajārī bakāl re... santo 4

Those are the true devotees of God, while others are petty vegetable sellers (i.e. low status).
