Translation

(1) Mohanne gamvāne īchchho mānnī

Sadguru Muktanand Swami

Muktanand Swami wrote this chosar as a message to his sister. Hence, he uses the words mānni and benī. (See the history of this kirtan.) However, the messages in this series of four kirtans is for all aspirants who want to please God and attain liberation.

Mohanne gamvāne īchchho mānnī,¹

 Tyāgo sarve jūṭhī mannī ṭek jo;

(O sister), have one desire: to please God. Renounce all other false resolves of the mind.

Pativratāno dharma achaḷ karī pāḷjo,

 Hari-charaṇe rahejo abaḷā thaī chhek jo... Mohan ne 1

(1) Follow the vow of fidelity firmly. Remain at the feet of God till the end.

Vaḷī ek vāt kahu chhu adhik viveknī,

 Sāmbhaḷ benī tārā sukhne kāj jo;

Moreover, O sister. Let me tell you about vivek (discretion). Listen to me for your own happiness.

Harijan sange rākho pūraṇ prītḍī,

 Tyāgo mad matsar jūṭhī kuḷ lāj jo... Mohan ne 2

(2) Maintain love for those who have an association with God. Rid your arrogance, jealousy, and other misconduct that brings disgrace.

Sukh-dāyak tame jāṇo sundar Shyāmne,

 Ati dukh-dāyak man potānu jāṇjo;

Understand that only God is the source of happiness, whereas, your own mind is the source of misery.

Muktānandnā Nāth magan thaī sevjo,

 Samjī vichārī bolo amrutveṇ jo... Mohan ne 3

(3) Serve God by becoming engrossed in him. Speak your words (as sweet as amrut) after much understanding and deep contemplation.

1. The word mānni is used to refer to an arrogant or angry woman. Here, Muktanand Swami’s sister may have experienced some anguish or anger when her attempts to persuade Muktanand Swami to return failed. Hence, Muktanand Swami uses this word.
