Translation
(1) Sāmbhaḷ benī Hari rījhyāṇī rītḍī
Muktanand Swami wrote this chosar as a message to his sister. Hence, he uses the words mānni and benī. (See the history of this kirtan.) However, the messages in this series of four kirtans is for all aspirants who want to please God and attain liberation.
Sāmbhaḷ benī Hari rījhyāṇī rītḍī,
Mohanvarne mān sangāthe ver jo;
O sister. Listen to me for the means to please God. God has an enmity toward ego.
Sādhan sarve mān bagāde paḷ vishe,
Jem bhaḷiyu paysākarmā ahi-jher jo... sāmbhaḷ 1
(1) All of your spiritual endeavors are spoiled by ego instantly, just as milk (made sweet by adding sākar) is ruined if poison of a snake drops into it.
Dāsī thaī raheje tu Dīndayāḷnī,
Nīchī ṭel maḷe to māne bhāgya jo;
Remain as the servant of God. If you attain a low position, consider it your great fortune.
Bhav-Brahmādikne nishche maḷtī nathī,
Purushottam pāse beṭhānī jāgya jo... sāmbhaḷ 2
(2) Bhav (Shiva), Brahmā, and others certainly cannot find a place to sit near God.
Prīt kare Purushottam sāthe nitya navī,
Dājhīsh mā dekhī ke’nu sanmān jo;
Love God each day with renewed faith. Do not envy others who are honored.
Muktānandnā Nāth magan thaī sevjo,
To rījhe rasiyo sundarvar kahān jo... sāmbhaḷ 3
(3) Serve God by becoming engrossed in him. Then God will be pleased.
