Translation
(1) Hu balihārī e vairāgyane
In this kirtan, Nishkulanand Swami describes how one possessing highest level of vairagya thinks and behaves. In the final line, Swami reveals that this level of vairagya can only be cultivated by the grace of God or a guru (the Satpurush).
Hu balihārī e vairāgyane, upanyo jene angjī;
I sacrifice myself to those who develop vairāgya...
Chaud lok ne je chaturdhā, na game sukhno te sangjī... Hu 1
...such that they do not like the happiness associated with any of the 14 worlds nor the four types of mukti.1
Sukh na ichchhe te sansārnā, samaje sapnā samānjī;
He never desires worldly happiness and understands it to be a dream.
Vāt game ek vairāgyanī, tansukh tyāgavā tānjī... Hu 2
He only likes talks of vairāgya; his only eagerness is to forsake happiness of the body.
Dukhī re dekhī ā dehne, rahe rājī te manjī;
He sees the body as a form of misery; yet he remains happy in his mind.
Anarathnu e āgār chhe, jāṇī na kare jatanjī... Hu 3
The body is the house of wrongdoings. Therefore, he knowingly does not care for his body.
[Here, Swami is saying when one cares for their body - keeping it healthy, clean, protected, etc. - one may engage in wrongdoings to fulfill that goal.]
Rātdivas rudiyāmāhī, varate em vichārajī;
Day and night, only one thought prevails in his heart...
Aho hu re koṇ ne jāīsh kiyā, karu teno niradhārjī... Hu 4
Oh! Who am I and where will I go? I want to determine this.2
[Swami is speaking about reflecting on one’s true form - the ātmā.]
Karu upāy have ehano, ḍoḷī desh videshjī;
I will find a solution to this (final moksha) by traveling far and wide.3
Koī re ugāre mune kāḷthī, sopu tene laī shīshjī... Hu 5
If someone can save me from kāl (the cycles of birth and death), I’ll surrender my head to him.3
Rahe re āturtā antare (ghaṇī), dekhī deh anityajī;
He remains extremely eager in his heart, seeing that his body is only temporary (it will certainly not remain).
Sukh na māne ā sansārmā, na kare koī shu prītajī... Hu 6
He never believes there is happiness in worldly life. He never develops affection towards anything.
Evī dashā re āvyā vinā, na hoy tan sukh tyāgjī;
Without reaching this state (this type of vairāgya), one cannot renounce the happiness associated with the body.
Uparno lāge re lajāmaṇo, vagoṇā sarakho vairāgajī... Hu 7
If one physically renounces but does not possess vairāgya of this type, then his vairāgya is disgraceful.
Hari Gurudev dayā karī, āpe eh vichārjī;
Showing great pity, Bhagwan and the Sant gives us this thought process.
Niṣhkuḷānand e nishank thaī, saheje tare te sansārjī... Hu 8
Nishkulanand Swami says without a doubt, they easily cross the ocean of misery.
