Translation
(1) Pratham vairāgya jene pragaṭe
In this kirtan, Swami describes one who set out on the path of renunciation with a strong determination; however, he becomes bound to a mere spot and his renunciation is in vain.
Pratham vairāgya jene pragaṭe, taje sakaḷ sansārjī;
One who is inspired by vairāgya, in the beginning, he leaves behind the whole world.
Rāj sāj sukh sampatti, mele māl bhanḍārjī... Pratham 1
He abandons his kingdom, its conveniences, wealth, property, etc.
Ashan vasan bhūṣhaṇ sajyā, ethī utāre manjī;
His mind becomes apathetic to food, clothes, ornaments, etc.
Antar vairāgya jene ūpaje, tajī bhuvan ichchhe vanjī... Pratham 2
One who develops vairāgya from within will leave behind his house and desires to live in the forest.
Sapta dhātu suvarṇa lagī, vānchchhe nahī te vāsaṇjī;
He does not desire anythingmade of valuable metals or gold.
Gām bhom te game nahi, ichchhe araṇyamā āsanjī... Pratham 3
He does not like villages. He prefers to make a home in the barren lands.
Māt tāt sut sambandhī, taje bhaginī ne bhāījī;
He leaves behind his mother, father, children, wife, brother, and other relatives.
Nārī na game dīṭhī nayaṇe, troḍe sahu shu sagāījī... Pratham 4
He does not like the sight of women. He has broken the relationship with everyone.
Eṭlā tajī nar nīsare, vaḷato līe veshajī;
All of this he has abandoned and set out with the guise of a renunciant.
Sukh dukh sahe sharīrne, dekhe desh videshjī... Pratham 5
He tolerates the happiness and misery of the body. Then, he sees many lands far and wide.
Pachhī thākī bese koī sthānake, joī sundar jāgyajī;
Then, he tires and spots a very nice place and sits there.
Niṣhkuḷānand e narno, vaḷato na rahe e vairāgyajī... Pratham 6
Nishkulanand Swami says of this man, his vairāgya will not last.
