કીર્તન મુક્તાવલી
Translation
(1) Ṛuṣhabhkuvarnī rītne suṇo sant sujāṇjī
This kirtan is a short narrative of how Bharatji became attached to a deer and was reborn as Jadbharat.
Ṛuṣhabhkuvarnī rītne, suṇo sant sujāṇjī;
O wise santo! Listen to the narrative of the son of Ṛushabhdev (Bharatji).
Samarth Bharat nāme karī, paraṭhyo khanḍa pramāṇjī... Ṛuṣhabh 1
Based on the name of the powerful Bharat, the country was named Bhārat.
Rāj tajī tap ādaryu, tajī sahushu sanehjī;
He renounced his kingdom and embarked on austerities. He broke affection from all.
Dayāmāhī dukh upanyu, thayo mṛugīshu nehjī... Ṛuṣhabh 2
He experience misery because he pitied an orphaned deer and became attached to it.
Teṇe karī tan dhāriyu, rahyu gnān abhangjī;
He became a deer in his next life. However, he retained the knowledge that this happened because of his affection for the deer.
Angīrā kuḷmā avataryā, rahyā sahushu asangjī... Ṛuṣhabh 3
(Subsequently, the deer ended its life.) He was born in the family of Angira (and was known as Jadbharat). He remained unattached to anyone else.
Mābāp melī marī gayā, rahyā bhāī ne bhojāījī;
His mother and father died. Only his brother and sister-in-law remained.
Jaḍ jāṇīne jevu tevu, anna āpe te khāyjī... Ṛuṣhabh 4
Considering him to be of dull intellect, they gave him scraps for food.
Pāvā sāru khetar mokalyā, chor laī gayā tyāyjī;
They sent him to water the farm. There, some bandits abducted him.
Detā balidān Devīne, karī Kāḷīe sā’yjī... Ṛuṣhabh 5
They were going to sacrifice him to a deity. However, Kāli Mātā saved him.
Tyāthī Jaḍbharat joḍiyā, rāye laī shībikāyjī;
From there, a king (King Rahugan) employed him in carrying his palanquin.
Niṣhkuḷānand ke’ e nṛupne, kahyo sukhno upāyjī... Ṛuṣhabh 6
Nishkulanand Swami says Jadbharat told the king the means to remain happy. (He gave him the knowledge of the ātmā and Paramātmā.)
