Translation

(1) Bhūlīsh hu jagatanī māyā Gurujī nahī bhūlu tamne

Rasikdas

Bhūlīsh hu jagatnī māyā, Gurujī nahī bhulu tamne;

Guruji, I will forget the world, but I will never forget you.

Jīvan ādhār Dīnbandhu, Gurujī nahī bhulu tamne…

[You are] the support of our life and a friend of the meek; I will never forget you.

Kadāpi mahelmā sūto, Rakhaḍto shaher ke raste;

Whether I am sleeping in a palace (like a king) or wandering the city streets (like a pauper);

Sukhī hau ke dukhī hau, Paṇ gurujī nahī bhulu tamne... 1

Whether I am happy or miserable, I will never forget you.

Banu hu rank ke rājā, Kadāpi sheth duniyāno;

Whether I become a servant, a king, or the owner of the entire world;

Amīrī ke fakīrīmā, Gurujī nahī bhulu tamne... 2

In affluence or poverty, I will never forget you.

Jīvannā dhampachhāḍāmā, Agar mrutyu bichhānāmā;

During the troubling times of life or the imminence of death;

Maraṇnā shvās letā paṇ, Gurujī nahī bhulu tamne... 3

Even when I am taking life’s last breath, I will never forget you.

Dukhonā ḍungaro tūṭe, Kadi ākhu jagat ruṭhe;

Whether mountains of misery are breaking apart or the whole world turns against me;

Parantu prāṇnā bhoge, Gurujī nahī bhulu tamne... 4

I will never forget you, even if I have to sacrifice my life.

Pūryā man mandire Swāmī, Pachhīthī kyā javānā chho?

I have trapped you in my mind, so how will you ever escape!

Dīvāno dās Rasik kahe chhe, Gurujī nahī bhulu tamne... 5

Rasikdas enthusiastically says, “Guruji, I will never forget you.”
