Translation
(1) Sant pāras chandan bāvnā kāmdhenu kalpataru sār
In this kirtan, Pritamdas explains that, even if some sadhus may be great, there is still a distinction in their greatness. He gives examples of the three types of pārasmanis and chandan trees. The best type of pārasmani is that which turn metal into another pārasmani, implying that the best sadhu is one who imparts his sublime qualities onto his pupils. The best type of a chandan tree is one that cools something else, such as oil, implying that a great Sadhu extinguishes the desires from within one’s heart and those desires never sprout again.

The Sant is like a pārasmani (a stone that turns metal into gold), chandan tree, kāmdhenu (a cow that fulfills one’s wishes), and a kalpataru (a tree that fulfills one’s wishes). The association of the genuine Sant is the best.

There is a vast difference in understanding the level of sants, just as there are three types of chandan trees and pārasmanis.
Ek pārasthī pāras bane, ek pārasthī hem hoy... Samāgam santno°
One type of pārasmani turns metal into a pārasmani. Another type turns metal into gold.
Ek pāras lohne kundan kare, so varse loh na hoy... Samāgam santno 4
The third type of pārasmani turns metal into gold for 100 years (after which it turns back into metal).
Ek chandanthī vikh ūtare, ek chandanthī agni olāy... Samāgam santno 5
One type of chandan counteracts poison. Another type extinguishes fire.
Ek talbhār tāt telmā, farī tātu tel nav thāy... Samāgam santno 6
If one adds even a small amount of the third type of chandan to boiling oil, it cools the oil and the oil will not boil again.
Sarve senā shūrī nav jāṇvī, sarve nārī pativratā no’y... Samāgam santno 7
Do not consider every army to be brave. And not all women observe the vow of fidelity.
Sarve gaj shir motī nav nīpaje, vane vane agar nav hoy... Samāgam santno 8
Not all elephants have a pearl embedded on their head. Fragrant trees are not found in every forest.
Mṛuge mṛuge kastūrī nav nīpaje, nāge nāge maṇi nav hoy... Samāgam santno 9
Not every deer produces musk. Not every cobra has a jewel on their forehead.
Jaḷe jaḷe kamaḷ nav nīpaje, tenī vikti vichārīne joy... Samāgam santno 10
Lotuses do not grow in every body of water. One should thoughtfully understand these distinctions.
Gnānhīn guru nav kījīe, vandhyā gāy seve shu thāy... Samāgam santno 11
Do not accept a guru who does not possess gnān. This is similar to caring for an infertile cow - what can one gain from it?
Kahe ‘Prītam’ brahmavettā bheṭatā, mahārog samūḷo jāy... Samāgam santno 12
Pritamdas says when one attains a guru who is a brahmavettā (the Brahmaswarup Sant), then one is rid of their great disease (cycle of births and deaths).
