(1) Ek same Amdāvādmā āvyā Shyām sujāṇ
This is the first pad of the set of 9 pads that narrate the incident when Bhagwan Swaminarayan arrived in Amdavad and installed the murtis of Narnarayan Dev. These pads were written by Gopaldas.
Ek same Amdāvādmā, āvyā Shyām sujāṇ;
Mūrti shobhe Mahārājni, (jāṇo) ugyā sūraj bhāṇ... 1
(1) Once, Shriji Maharaj arrived in Amdavad. His murti was majestic as if the sun had risen.
Navgharu shire shobhtu, jāṇe ravino bhās;
Joīne mohī sūrvanitā, vimān chhāyā ākāsh... 2
(2) He wore an ornament on his head that appeared like the sun. Seeing his majesty, the women’s attention was captured. Vimāns (celestial vehicles) filled the skies (the devas came in their vimāns).
Meghāḍambar Hari upare, Īndre dharyo te vār;
Chandanpushpnī Vrushti kare, Brahmādī dev apār... 3
(3) Indradev created a canopy of cloud over Shriji Maharaj. Brahmā and other deities showered chandan and flowers from the sky.
Kesar tilak sohāmaṇu, shobhe bhāl vishāl;
Nāsā bhrukuṭi vānkḍī, gāle ṭībakḍīno tāl... 4
(4) On his vast forehead, the tilak (made with saffron mixed with chandan) looked extraordinary. Maharaj’s nose and eyebrows were curvy. He had a small freckle on his cheek.
Shobhe adhar ati rātḍā, māhī madhurī hās;
Dās Gopāḷ kahe dantnī, pankti kare re prakāsh... 5
(5) His lips were red and he had a sweet laughter. Gopaldas says his set of teeth were sparkling.
