કીર્તન મુક્તાવલી
Translation
(1) Hājī bhalā shurā jagmā re sant
Hājī bhalā shurā, jagmā re sant,
In the world, truly great is the Sant who is brave.
Man baḷvant jīte, soī shurā…
…for he has conquered his powerful mind.
Shurā jagme sant hai, aur sab lāj majūr;
The sant is brave in the world, whereas all others are mere laborers (i.e. they never move beyond toiling each day just to fulfill their bodily needs).
Manko krut māne nahi, tan dhan jānat dhur... man 1
He does not believe the mind’s fancies and considers his body and wealth to be dirt.
Man jīte so marad hai, taje naradse neh;
One who conquers their mind are brave. He has renounced affection for his body.
Pahere bakhtar premkā, dekhe garad† sam deh... man 2
He wears an armor of love [for God] and considers his body as mere dirt.
Būm paḍe jab bāhrā, sab doḍe sansār;
When there is a war cry, everyone runs.
Kachchā pakkā pārkhā, jab nikle talvār... man 3
However, the distinction between the brave and the coward is made when the brave draw their sword [and run towards the fight while the cowards, on the other hand, run away].
Desh pradeshme ḍolnā, mamtā tankī mel;
He travels regions far and wide, having renounced attachment to body.
Ehī mat avdhutkā, shirsātekā khel... man 4
This is the philosophy of the true renunciant. He remains firm in his renunciation, even if he has to lose his head.
Ek Harise āsakta hai, nahi jakta urmāy;
He has weakness (i.e. affection) for only God and does not have any attachment to the world in his heart.
Brahmānand guruvāyak par, ṭuk ṭuk uḍ jāy... man 5
Brahmanand Swami says such a person lives and dies by the guru’s commands.
†Garad is translated as either ‘dirt’ or ‘poison’.
