પ્રહ્લાદજી
શાસ્ત્રોમાં આવતાં પાત્રો
પ્રહ્લાદ હિરણ્યકશિપુ અને કયાધુનો પુત્ર હતો. જ્યારે પ્રહ્લાદ કયાધુના ગર્ભમાં હતા ત્યારે હિરણ્યકશિપુ તપ કરવા ગયેલો. હિરણ્યકશિપુની અનુપસ્થિતિમાં ઇન્દ્રે કયાધુને પકડી નારદજી પાસે રાખી. નારદજી રોજ તેને વિષ્ણુની વાત કરતા. આથી પ્રહ્લાદ નાનપણથી જ વિષ્ણુનો પરમ ભક્ત બન્યો. આ વાત હિરણ્યકશિપુને ગમી નહીં, આથી તેણે પ્રહ્લાદને મારી નાખવા અનેક પ્રયત્નો કર્યા છતાં ભગવાને હંમેશાં રક્ષા કરી. છેવટે ભગવાને નૃસિંહ અવતાર ધારણ કરી તેનો વધ કર્યો. પછી પ્રહ્લાદ રાજા બન્યો. એક વાર ચ્યવન ઋષિને લઈ તેઓ બદરિકાશ્રમમાં ગયા ત્યારે નર-નારાયણ પાસે અસ્ત્રો જોઈ તે રાખવાનું કારણ પૂછ્યું ત્યારે ઋષિએ કહ્યું, “તારા જેવા અસુરને મારવા.” આથી ગુસ્સે થઈ પ્રહ્લાદે તેમની સાથે યુદ્ધ કર્યું પણ નારાયણ સામે ન જીત્યા. પછી ભગવાને જ તેમને ભજન કરી પોતાને જીતવાનો માર્ગ બતાવ્યો. પ્રહ્લાદના પૌત્ર બલિરાજા હતા.

Prahlād was the son of Hiranyakashipu and Kayādhu. While Prahlād was in Kayādhu’s womb, Hiranyakashipu went to perform penance. In his absence, Indra abducted Kayādhu to kill her in case the child would become as powerful as his father who terrified the three realms. However, Nāradji intervened and told Indra he would keep Kayādhu in his hermitage and discourse on God daily so the child would be born as a devotee of God. Therefore, Prahlād was born as a devotee from his birth. His father did not like this and tried to kill him in many ways, but God always protected him. Ultimately, God assumed the Nrusihna avatār and killed Hiranyakashipu. Prahlād ascended the throne. Once, Prahlad accompanied Chyavan Rishi to Badrikāshram. There he saw Nārāyan bearing weapons and asked the reason. Nārāyan said, “To kill demons like you.” Prahlād was angered and waged a battle with Nārāyan; however, he could not defeat him. God then told him that he can be defeated by worshiping him. He did so and won over God. Prahlād’s grandson was King Bali.
