શાસ્ત્રોમાં આવતાં પાત્રો
પૂતના બકાસુરની બહેન હતી. કંસે બાળક કૃષ્ણને મારવા આ રાક્ષસીને મોકલેલી. કંસની આજ્ઞાથી એ ગોકુળમાં છોકરાંઓને મારી નાખતી. સુંદર સ્વરૂપવતી સ્ત્રીનું રૂપ ધારણ કરીને કૃષ્ણને ધવરાવવા લાગી. એ પોતાના સ્તન પર ઝેર ચોપડીને આવી હતી. કૃષ્ણને એની ખબર હોવાથી એમણે વિષ ચૂસી લીધું, એટલું જ નહીં પણ એના પ્રાણ પણ શોષી લીધા અને ભગવાન શ્રીકૃષ્ણની દયાને કારણે યશોદા તુલ્ય ગતિ પામી.

Putnā was Bakāsur’s sister. She was sent by Kansa to kill Krishna in Gokul. As commanded by Kansa, she killed newborn infants in order to kill Krishna. She took upon the form of a beautiful woman, applied poison to her nipples, and went around to breastfeed the village infants. Krishna knew of her motive. He sucked the poison so forcefully that her prāns (life) were sucked as well. However, because she breastfed him - an act of a mother - and due to his merciful nature, Krishna liberated her just like his own mother Yashodā.
