ગોવર્ધનભાઈ શેઠ
સત્સંગી ભક્તો
ગોવર્ધનભાઈ (ગોરધનભાઈ) માંગરોળ ગામના વણિક ભક્ત હતા. સંવત ૧૮૫૬ની સાલમાં શ્રીજીમહારાજ નીલકંઠવર્ણી રૂપે માંગરોળ પધાર્યા ત્યારે ડોસાવાવ ઉપર વર્ણી સ્વરૂપ મહારાજની અલૌકિક મૂર્તિ જોઈને તેમની અંતઃવૃત્તિઓ મહારાજના સ્વરૂપમાં ખેંચાઈ ગઈ. તે વખતે નીલકંઠ વર્ણીએ ગોરધનભાઈને સમાધિ કરાવી હતી તથા તેમના ફોઈ પૂતળીબાઈનો મોક્ષ કર્યો હતો. તે જ વખતે ગોવર્ધનભાઈને શ્રીજીમહારાજના સ્વરૂપનો દૃઢ નિશ્ચય થયો.
રામાનંદ સ્વામીના ધામગમન બાદ સદાવ્રત આપવાની શરૂઆત શ્રીજીમહારાજે માંગરોળમાં ગોરધનભાઈની હવેલીમાં બિરાજી સભા કરીને કરી હતી. એ પ્રસાદીની હવેલી હજી પણ તેવી જ સ્થિતિમાં છે. તેને જોતા ગોવર્ધનભાઈની શ્રીમંત સ્થિતિનો ખ્યાલ આવે છે.
ગોવર્ધનભાઈને મીઠું ને સાકર સમ વર્તતું. આથી તેઓ મીઠું પણ સાકર માની જમી જતા. તેઓ મહારાજની મૂર્તિમાં એવા લીન રહેતા કે એક વખત કપડા ધોવા જતાં કપડાને બદલે દીકરાને ખભે નાંખીને જતા રહ્યા. એક વખત તેમણે કડાં પહેર્યાં હતાં તે કાઢી નાખ્યાં ને વિચાર્યું, “મહારાજને મૂકીને મેં આ શું કર્યું?” તે વિચારે કરીને તેમનું શરીર કાળું થઈ ગયું; વિષય વધ્યા તે પણ ભાર થયો એવું જાણનાર તેઓ ભારે ભગવદી હતા. શ્રીજીમહારાજે પણ કહ્યું કે, “અમારા ખરેખરા સત્સંગી તો ગોરધનભાઈ ને પર્વતભાઈ છે.” શ્રીજીમહારાજનાં દરેક ચરિત્રોમાં તેમને હંમેશાં દિવ્યભાવ રહેતો. મહારાજ પ્રસંગોપાત્ત તેની સાક્ષી પૂરતા. તેઓ ત્રણેય અવસ્થામાં પોતાના આત્માને બ્રહ્મરૂપે માનીને મહારાજનું અખંડ ભજન કરતા.

Govardhanbhai (Gordhanbhai) was a merchant devotee of Māngrol. In S. Y. 1856, when Maharaj arrived in Māngrol as Nilkanth Varni, Gordhanbhai first saw him at Dosāvāv and his mind was drawn toward him. Nilkanth Varni granted him the samādhi experience and also liberated his paternal aunt Putalibāi. At that instant, Gordhanbhai developed conviction of Shriji Maharaj’s from.
After Ramanand Swami reverted to dhām, Shriji Maharaj started the first almshouses in Māngrol in Gordhanbhai’s haveli. That consecrated haveli is still preserved in the same state today. Seeing the haveli today reminds us the wealthy status of Gordhanbhai.
To Gordhanbhai, salt and sugar were the same. He would eat salt as if it was sugar. He was continuously engrossed in Maharaj’s form in all activities. Once, he carried a child on his shoulders thinking he was carrying his clothes that were washed. Another time, he wore bracelets, but then thought: How did I neglect Maharaj and wear bracelets? That thought made his body turn dark - the indulgence of merely wearing bracelets had that kind of an effect on his body. Such was his great state. Shriji Maharaj used to say: “My true devotees are Gordhanbhai and Parvatbhai.” He always perceived all actions of Maharaj as divine; and Maharaj mentioned this from time to time. He believed his ātmā to be brahmarup and continuously worshiped Maharaj in all three states.
