પરમાનંદ સ્વામી ઉત્તરપ્રદેશના લખનઉ પાસેના ગામના હતા. નાનપણથી જ તેમને અસાધ્ય રોગ થયેલો અને કાનમાં સતત શંખનાદ જેવો અવાજ થયા કરે. આથી નિદ્રા પણ આવતી નહીં. છતાં રામાયણ આદિ શાસ્ત્રોનો અભ્યાસ કર્યો. પછી રોગ ટાળવા માટે વૈરાગીનો વેશ ધારીને રામાયણ પ્રમાણેના કાગભૂશુંડી જેવા સત્પુરુષની શોધમાં નીકળ્યા. ફરતાં ફરતાં જેતલપુરમાં રામાનંદ સ્વામીએ શરૂ કરેલા સદાવ્રતમાં જમ્યા ને ત્યાં જ સૂતા. તે વખતે કાનમાં અવાજ આવતો બંધ થયો ને ખૂબ સારી ઊંઘ આવી. ત્યાર પછી રામાનંદ સ્વામીને મહામોટા સંત જાણી તેમની પાસે સાધુ દીક્ષા લીધી. પરમાનંદ સ્વામીએ જૂનાગઢમાં રહી ગુણાતીતાનંદ સ્વામીના કારભારી તરીકે પણ સેવા આપી હતી. મહારાજે તેમને ગઢડાના મહંત પણ બનાવ્યા હતા.

Paramānand Swāmi was from a village near Lucknow in Uttar-Pradesh. He had a childhood malady of the ear where he constantly heard a sound like the conch shell. He suffered from insomnia as a result. Nevertheless, he studied the Rāmāyan and other scriptures. Then, to find a cure for his illness, he went to search for a satpurush like Kagbhushundi.† While traveling, he arrived in Jetalpur where Rāmānand Swāmi started an almshouse. He ate there and slept. The constant sound in his ears stopped and he slept peacefully. He understood Rāmānand Swāmi to be a great sadhu and obtained dikshā from him. Paramānand Swāmi also lived in Junāgadh with Gunātitānand Swāmi to manage the mandir affairs. Maharaj had made him the mahant of the Gadhada mandir.
†Kagbhushundi Rishi was transformed into a crow by Lomas Rishi’s curse. He appears in the Rāmāyan to watch the divine childhood incidents of Ram Bhagwan.
