રામબાઈ રાજકોટ જિલ્લાના જેતપુર ગામના જીવા જોષીનાં દીકરી હતાં. તેમનું મૂળ નામ કડવીબાઈ હતું. તેમનો પતિ આસુરી બુદ્ધિવાળો હતો અને અત્યંત ત્રાસ આપતો. તેમના ધણીએ એક વાર ગુસ્સામાં તેમને મા-બહેન કહ્યું. તરત તેમણે બલોયાં (લાંબી ચૂડલી) ભાંગી નાંખ્યાં, માથેથી કેશ ઉતારી લીધા અને ધણીનું સ્નાન કરી લીધું. ન્યાતીલા બ્રાહ્મણો તેમને મારવા તૈયાર થયા, પણ ઉન્નડખાચરે કડવીબાઈનો પક્ષ રાખી રક્ષા કરી. મહારાજે તેમનું નામ ‘રામબાઈ’ રાખ્યું હતું. જીવુબા ભેળાં ગઢડામાં જ રહી ભજન કરતાં અને હજારો બાઈઓને સત્સંગ કરાવતાં.

Rāmbāi was from Jetpur, located in the Rājkot district. She was the daughter of Jivā Joshi. Her original name was Kadavibāi. Her husband was of an ill-nature and abusive. In an angry fit, he once referred to Rāmbāi as her mother and sister. Instantly, Rāmbāi broke her bracelet (given as sign of marriage), cut her hair, and bathed to relieve herself of her relationship with him. The brāhmins were prepared to beat her for breaking the relationship, but Unnad Khāchar sided with Rāmbāi and protected her. Shriji Maharaj named her Rāmbāi. She lived with Jivubā in Gadhadā and spent her days worshiping God and encouraged other women to do the same.
