  1. By staying with him [keeping his company] – observing how he eats, drinks, etc.
  2. By having another person secretly observe him.
  1. If a person attempts to eradicate an improper thought, but the thought still arises, then such a thought would cause him to fall from dharma.
  2. If one has the disposition of imbibing the virtues of a sadhu, then his foundation in Satsang becomes solid.
  3. The method of controlling the indriyas and the antahkaran:
  1. By controlling the indriyas, the antahkaran can be controlled; but the indriyas cannot be controlled by controlling the antahkaran.
  2. From the scriptures: One should realise the greatness of God and His Sant.
  3. From the Sant: One should learn the techniques for controlling the indriyas.
  4. From one’s own thought process: look upon the techniques taught by the Sant positively as being for one’s own liberation.
  5. Means to controlling the indriyas: physical austerities, observance of niyams, listening to discourses of God.
  6. Means to controlling the antahkaran: understanding the greatness of God, ātmā-realisation, and meditation.
