Vachanamrut Essence

Gadhadā II-23

  1. The nature of the mind:
  1. The instrument with which the jiva indulges in the vishays is the mind.
  2. Just as a person can die from heat or frost, similarly, when the mind travels towards the vishays that are full of miseries, the jiva becomes miserable and falls from the path of liberation; and if the vishays are pleasurable, the jiva becomes extremely happy [becomes attached to the vishays instead of God] and falls from the path of liberation.
  1. One whose mind remains unmoved - that is, it does not become ‘hot’ upon experiencing repulsive vishays and does not become ‘cold’ upon experiencing pleasurable vishays should be known as a Param-Bhāgwat Sant.
