  1. The means to develop an aversion to the panchvishays:
  1. Realising the miseries in the panchvishays and developing firm vairāgya toward them.
  2. Knowing the misery one will suffer by indulging in the panchvishays.
  3. Knowing the redemptive virtues of God.
  1. Characteristics of one who has conquered his indriyas:
  1. He bears an extreme aversion toward the panchvishays.
  2. He spends his life in offering the nine types of bhakti to God.
  1. A renunciant who follows the path of pravrutti:
  1. Should abide by the niyams given by God.
  2. Should abandon the vices such as lust, anger, etc.
  3. Should consider only the service and pravrutti related to God and His devotees are a form of bhakti.
  4. He is greater than a renunciant who only possesses ātmā-realisation.
  5. He becomes worthy or earning God’s grace.
