Vachanamrut Essence

Gadhadā I-52

  1. Sānkhya scriptures:
  1. Understanding: the jivas and ishwars are included in the 24 elements and God is the 25th element.
  2. Drawback: when rejecting the 24 elements [because they are perishable], one understands the jiva to be God – the 25th element.
  1. Yoga scriptures:
  1. Understanding: the jivas and ishwars are distinct from the 24 elements, God is the 26th element and possesses a definite form.
  2. Drawback: by believing God to possess a definite form, they consider Him to have limitations; they do not understand Him to be the antaryāmi of all and absolutely perfect.
  1. Vedānt scriptures:
  1. Understanding: God pervades all, is the cause of all, is the supporter of all, is nirgun, and is untainted by māyā or divine.
  2. Drawback: God - who is described as the cause of all, pervading all and nirgun - is believed to be formless.
  1. Panchrātra scriptures:
  1. Understanding: Parabrahma assumes an avatār on this earth and one attains liberation by worshipping Him.
  2. Drawback: human traits are perceived in the avatārs of God and God is understood as being present in only one place at any one time, but not as being the antaryāmi of all and absolutely perfect.
  1. He who understands God using all four scriptures together is known as being completely enlightened.
  2. He who acts according to his own mentally concocted interpretations of the scriptures:
  1. Even if he is a Vedānti or one with upāsanā, he cannot be said to have found the path of liberation.
  2. He should be viewed as a hypocritical gnāni and a hypocritical devotee.
