Vachanamrut Essence

Gadhadā I-58

  1. The forces of the gunas:
  1. If they arise due to the body, they are eradicated by contemplating on the ātmā and the non-ātmā.
  2. If they arise from bad company, they are eradicated by keeping the company of a sādhu.
  3. If they arise from unfavourable sanskārs of the past, they are eradicated by pleasing an extremely great Purush.
  1. By pleasing the great Purush:
  1. Unfavourable prārabdha becomes favourable.
  2. A beggar becomes a king.
  3. A disastrous misfortune one is to face is avoided.
  4. Inappropriate sanskārs from the past are destroyed.
  1. To please the great Purush:
  1. One should behave honestly.
  2. Forsake swabhāvs.
  3. Behave with humility.
  1. Whatever vices one perceives in the great Purush will dwell on the perceiver; and if one perceives the great Purush to be free of evil natures, then the perceiver becomes free of those evil natures.
  2. Characteristics of a staunch devotee:
  1. Has a dislike for alluring vishays.
  2. Has firm faith in God.
  1. Means to become a staunch devotee:
  1. Understanding the great Purush to be free of evil natures.
  2. Behaving as a servant of the servants of God and realising their greatness.
  1. Benefit of becoming a staunch devotee:
  1. All of one’s evil natures are destroyed.
  2. The noble virtues flourish in him day by day.
