1. God performs austerities for the sake of his devotees out of compassion, but not for non-devotees.
2. Due to the power of God’s austerities:

1. The devotee’s virtues of dharma, gnān, etc., even if in lesser degree, flourish greatly in just a short span of time.
2. The devotee has the darshan of God in his heart.
3. The devotee attains liberation without any hindrances.
