ઉદ્ધવ
શાસ્ત્રોમાં આવતાં પાત્રો
ઉદ્ધવના પિતા દેવભાગ (વસુદેવના ભાઈ) અને માતા કંસા હતાં. તેઓ પરમ બુદ્ધિમાન અને નીતિમાન હતા. તેઓ કૃષ્ણના પરમ સખા અને પરમ ભક્ત હતા. તેઓ સદા કૃષ્ણની સાથે રહેતા. જ્યારે કૃષ્ણ મથુરા આવ્યા ત્યારે નંદ-જશોદા અને ગોપીઓને સાંત્વન આપવા ઉદ્ધવ ગયેલા, પણ ગોપીઓની સમજણ જોઈ તેઓ ચકિત થઈ ગયા ને ગોપીઓની ચરણરજ અડે એવાં વૃક્ષ-વેલીનો અવતાર માંગ્યો. જ્યારે કૃષ્ણ ધામમાં જવાના હતા ત્યારે તેમને ઘણું જ્ઞાન આપી શાંતિ કરાવેલી અને સંસાર છોડવાની ખૂબ વાત કરી હતી.

Uddhav was the son of Devbhāg (brother of Vasudev) and Kansā. He was extremely intelligent and moral. He was a great friend and a devotee of Krishna. He always stayed close to Krishna. After Krishna left Gokul and arrived in Mathurā, he had Uddhav return to Vraj to console Nand, Jashodā, and the Gopis. However, he was surprised to realize the sublime understanding of the Gopis. He asked for an avatār of plants and vines where the Gopis walked so the dust of their feet would fall on him. When Krishna was going to revert back to his abode, he imparted Uddhav with much wisdom and brought him peace. He also spoke to him about renouncing his worldly life.
