સત્સંગી ભક્તો
માતાજીનો જન્મ ભાલ પ્રદેશમાં ધંધુકા પાસે વાગડ ગામમાં ક્ષત્રિય જ્ઞાતિના રાજવી કુટુંબમાં થયેલો. તેમનું નામ જનકબા હતું, પણ નાનપણથી ઝાંઝર પહેરી કીર્તનમાં નાચતાં. આથી તેમનું નામ ઝમકુબા પડેલું. તેમના પિતાનું નામ ખોડુભા તથા માતાનું નામ વ્રજકુંવરબા હતું. તેમનાં લગ્ન ઉદેપુરના રાણા સાથે થયેલાં. તેમણે અમદાવાદના એક બ્રાહ્મણ પાસેથી સ્વામિનારાયણની વાત સાંભળેલી. આથી દર્શનની ઇચ્છા થઈ પણ રાણો દુષ્ટ હોવાથી મહેલમાં કેદ કર્યાં. પછી મહારાજે દર્શન દઈ ઉપાય બતાવ્યો અને માર્ગમાં ઘણાં કષ્ટો વેઠી કારિયાણી આવ્યાં. અહીં મહારાજનાં દર્શન કર્યાં અને નિશ્ચય થયો. આથી ત્યાં જ રોકાયાં. પછી મહારાજે ગઢડા જીવુબા-લાડુબા પાસે રહેવાં મોકલ્યાં. પોતે રાજરાણી હોવા છતાં નાની-મોટી બધી સેવા ખૂબ હોંશથી કરતાં. પછી મહારાજે સાંખ્યયોગી બનાવી ‘માતાજી’ નામ આપ્યું ને ભુજમાં ‘લાધીમા’ સાથે રહેવા કહ્યું. ત્યાં જ ભજન કરતાં કરતાં દેહ છોડ્યો હતો.

Mātāji was born in Vāgad, a village near Dhandhukā in the Bhāl Pradesh region, to a royal family. Her original name was Janakbā but because she danced to kirtans wearing anklets, she was nicknamed Zamkubā. Her father’s name was Khodubhā and mother’s name was Vrajkunvarbā. She was married to Rānā of Udepur. She heard about Bhagwan Swaminarayan from a brāhmin of Amdāvād. She wanted to have darshan but the wicked Rānā locked her up in the palace. Maharaj gave her darshan and showed her a way to escape. She encountered many adversities as she made her way to Kāriyāni. In Kāriyāni, she had Maharaj’s darshan and developed conviction that he was God. She stayed there. Later, Maharaj sent her to live with Jivubā and Lādubā in Gadhadā. Despite being a princess, she enthusiastically involved herself in great and small sevā. Maharaj gave her the name Mātāji and sent her to live in Bhuj with Lādhimā. She spent her days in worship of God there and passed away.
