જય-વિજય
શાસ્ત્રોમાં આવતાં પાત્રો
જય અને વિજય ભગવાન વિષ્ણુના દ્વાપાળો છે. જ્યારે સનકાદિક ઋષિ આવ્યા ત્યારે તેમને નાના બાળકો જાણી દ્વાર પાસે રોક્યા અને જવા ન દીધા અને અપમાન કર્યું. આથી સનકાદિકના શાપથી તેઓ ત્રણ જન્મ સુધી અસુર યોનિને પામ્યા. પહેલા જન્મમાં હિરણ્યાક્ષ અને હિરણ્યકશિપુ આ બે ભાઈ તરીકે જન્મ થયો. વરાહાવતારે હિરણ્યાક્ષનો વધ કર્યો અને નૃસિંહાવતારે હિરણ્યકશિપુનો વધ કર્યો. બીજા જન્મમાં રામાવતાર વખતે રાવણ અને કુંભકર્ણ તરીકે થયો. રામ ભગવાનના હાથે તેમનો વધ થયો હતો. ત્રીજા જન્મે કૃષ્ણાવતારમાં શિશુપાલ અને દંતવક્ત્ર તરીકે થયો. કૃષ્ણ ભગવાને શિશુપાલને સુદર્શન ચક્ર વડે માથુ કાપીને વધ કર્યો અને મોક્ષ ગતિ અર્પી.

Jay and Vijay were the guards of Vishnu Bhagwan. When the Sanakādik Rishis arrived to meet Vishnu, they stopped them and insulted them. The Sanakādik cursed them to take birth as demons on the earth for three births. Their first birth was as the brothers Hiranyāksha and Hiranyakashipu. Varāhavatār killed Hiranyāksha and Nrusinhāvatār killed Hiranyakashipu. In their second birth, they were born as the brothers Rāvan and Kumbhkarna. Rām killed both of them. In their third birth, they were born as Shishupāl and Dantavaktra. Krishna killed Shishupāl by beheading him with his Sudharshan Chakra and liberated him.
