યોગાનંદ સ્વામી ઉત્તર ગુજરાતના ગલથોર ગામના ક્ષત્રિય વંશના હતા. નાનપણથી જ ભક્તિભાવવાળા હતા. તેથી ભગવાન મેળવવા માટે તીર્થયાત્રામાં નીકળ્યા ત્યારે કણભા ગામે “શ્રીજીમહારાજ ભગવાન છે ને આ જ ગામમાં છે” એમ સમાચાર મળતાં દર્શને આવ્યા અને સાધુ થવાની ઇચ્છા દર્શાવી. મહારાજે તેમને સાધુ કરી ‘યોગાનંદ’ નામ પાડ્યું. તેમની વાણીમાં માધુર્ય હતું. મહારાજની આજ્ઞાથી સંસ્કૃતનો ઊંડો અભ્યાસ કર્યો હતો. તેઓ ઘણી વાર સુંદર સ્તુતિ અને સ્તોત્ર રચી મહારાજને મોકલતા. મહારાજ પણ તેમને વખાણતા. મહારાજના ધામગમન પછી તેઓએ નિષ્ક્રિય ન થતાં સત્સંગ કરાવ્યો હતો અને પોતાના શિષ્યોને પણ પોતા જેવા વિદ્વાન બનાવ્યા હતા. ધંધુકામાં તેમણે દેહત્યાગ કર્યો હતો.

Yogānand Swāmi was a kshatriya from the northern Gujarāt village of Galthor. He was inclined to devotion from childhood. He left home on a pilgrimage to find God. When he arrived in Kanabhā, he heard that Shriji Maharaj is God and is residing in this village. He went for his darshan and showed interest in becoming a sadhu. Maharaj initiated him and named him Yogānand. His voice was sweet. As per Maharaj’s command, he studied Sanskrit. He often wrote and sent Maharaj verses extolling him. Maharaj praised him in return. After Maharaj reverted to Akshardham, he remained active in spreading satsang and he made scholars of his disciples. He left his mortal body in Dhandhukā.
