લક્ષ્મણજી
શાસ્ત્રોમાં આવતાં પાત્રો
અયોધ્યાના રાજા દશરથનો સુમિત્રાથી જન્મેલો પુત્ર અને રામના નાના ભાઈ એટલે લક્ષ્મણ. તે શેષનો અવતાર ગણાયા છે. તેમણે રામ સાથે વનમાં જઈ રામ તથા સીતાની અનન્ય ભાવથી સેવા કરી હતી. વનવાસ દરમિયાન ચૌદ વરસ પર્યંત તેમણે આહાર, નિદ્રા તજી ભારે બ્રહ્મચર્ય પાળ્યું હતું. રાવણના પુત્ર મેઘનાદનો સંહાર કર્યો હતો. તેમની પત્નીનું નામ ઊર્મિલા હતું. તેનાથી લક્ષ્મણને અંગદ અને ચંદ્રકેતુ નામે બે પુત્રરત્ન થયાં હતાં.
જ્યારે રામે લક્ષ્મણને યુવરાજપદ આપવા માંડ્યું ત્યારે તે તેમણે લીધું નહીં. આ ઉપરથી તેમને વૈરાગ્યશીલ જોઈ, જ્ઞાનના અધિકારી ગણી, તેમણે પ્રાર્થના કરવાથી રામે તેમને બ્રહ્મવિદ્યા કહી હતી.
ભગવાન સ્વામિનારાયણે જેતલપુરના બીજા વચનામૃતમાં લક્ષ્મણજીને ‘જતિ’ની ઉપમા આપીને પ્રસંસા કરી છે.

Lakshman was the son of Dashrath, the king of Ayodhya and Sumitra. He was the younger brother of Ram. He is considered the avatār of Shesh. When Ram was banished to the forest for 14 years, he went along with Ram and Sita and served them with utmost faith. He did not heed to hunger and sleep during the 14 year exile and observed celibacy. He killed Ravan’s son Meghnad. He had two children with wife Urmila: Angad and Chandraketu.
When Ram was giving him the position of a yuvrāj, he declined it. Realizing his intense detachment and worthy of wisdom, Ram ordained him with brahmavidyā.
Bhagwan Swaminarayan has extolled Lakshmanji in Jetalpur 2 by calling him a ‘jati’.
