સૌભરી ઋષિ
શાસ્ત્રોમાં આવતાં પાત્રો
સૌભરિ ઋષિએ ૬૦,૦૦૦ વર્ષ પાણીમાં બેસી તપ કરેલું. પછી માછલાનું મૈથુન જોઈ તેમને પરણવાની ઇચ્છા થઈ. આથી માંધાતા રાજા પાસે જઈ તેની કન્યાની યાચના કરી પણ ઋષિ વૃદ્ધ અને કદરૂપા હોવાથી રાજાએ કહ્યું, “મારા અંતઃપુરમાં જાઓ અને તમારી સાથે કોને પરણવાની ઇચ્છા છે તે જુઓ.” આથી તેમણે પોતાના તપોબળ વડે દિવ્ય અને તરુણ દેહ ધારણ કર્યો. આથી બધી કન્યાઓ મોહી પડી અને બધી કન્યાઓ સાથે પરણ્યા. પછી પોતાના આશ્રમમાં આવ્યા ને બાકીના તપોબળે દરેક માટે એક-એક મહેલ બનાવ્યો. દૈવી શક્તિ વડે તે બધી સ્ત્રીઓ સાથે કાયમ રહેતા. તેમને ૧૫૦ પુત્રો થયા. છેવટે આ બધું વ્યર્થ જણાતાં ફરી વનમાં જઈ તપ કરવા લાગ્યા અને બાકીનું જીવન ભક્તિમાં વિતાવ્યું. તેમનો આશ્રમ નર્મદા તીરે હતો.

Saubhari Rishi performed penance for 60,000 years in water. At the conclusion, he observed fish mating and a desire to marry awakened. He went to King Māndhātā to ask for his daughters in marriage. However, because Saubhari was of old age and unattractive, the king said, “Go and see which of my daughters are willing to marry you.” Realizing no one would willingly marry him, Saubhari used the merits of his penance to assume an attractive form. All 50 of the king’s daughters got ready to marry him. Then, he used the remaining merits of his penance to build a palace for each of his wives. Using his powers, he spent his time with all of his wives at once. He had 150 sons. Ultimately, he realized all of this was in vain, and he renounced once again to perform penance. He spent his final days in devotion. His āshram was near the River Narmadā.
