ભગવાન સ્વામિનારાયણ
સ્વામિનારાયણ એ જ ભગવાન સ્વામિનારાયણે સ્વયં આપેલું પોતાનું નામ. ગુરુ રામાનંદ સ્વામી ધામમાં પધાર્યા બાદ તેરમા દિવસે (માગશર વદ ૧૧, આ. સં. ૧૮૫૮/૩૧-૧૨-૧૮૦૧) સહજાનંદ સ્વામીએ સર્વને ‘સ્વામિનારાયણ’ મહામંત્ર આપ્યો અને સ્વામિનારાયણ નામનું ભજન શરું કરાવ્યું. ત્યાર બાદ સહજાનંદ સ્વામી વિશેષે કરીને સ્વામિનારાયણ તરીકે ઓળખાતા.
આ મહામંત્રમાં શાસ્ત્રમાત્રનો સાર આવી જાય છે: સ્વામી એટલે પુરુષોત્તમનારાયણ સહજાનંદ સ્વામીના ઉત્તમ ભક્ત ગુણાતીતાનંદ સ્વામી, જે તત્ત્વતઃ અનાદિ અક્ષરબ્રહ્મ છે. અને નારાયણ એટલે સહજાનંદ સ્વામી, પરબ્રહ્મ પુરુષોત્તમનારાયણ પોતે. આમ, ગુણાતીતરૂપ બની - બ્રહ્મરૂપ બની - પુરુષોત્તમનારાયણની ઉપાસના -ભક્તિ કરવી તે બોધ આ નામમાં સમાયેલો છે.

Bhagwan Swaminarayan
Swaminarayan is the name of Bhagwan Swaminarayan that he gave his devotees himself (on the 13th day after Ramanand Swami passed away) on Magshar vad 11, A.S. 1858/Dec. 31, 1801). He ordered his devotees to chant the name of the Swaminarayan Mahamantra, so he became more commonly known as Swaminarayan.
This name includes the essence of all the scriptures. Swami refers to Gunatitanand Swami, the eternal Aksharbrahma, the unparalleled devotee of Purushottam Narayan. Narayan refers to Sahajanand Swami himself, the one supreme God. The intent of this name is to become like Gunatitanand Swami, or brahmarup, and worship Purushottam and offer upāsanā to him.
