પરમહંસો
સંપ્રદાયમાં એક કરતા વધારે દેવાનંદ સ્વામી હતા એવું મંજુકેશાનંદ સ્વામીએ નંદમાળામાં લખેલું છે. શ્રીપાત્ દેવાનંદ સ્વામી વડનગરનાં બ્રાહ્મણ પરિવારમાંથી આવ્યા હતા. તેઓ રામાનંદ સ્વામી પાસે દીક્ષા લેવા આવેલા ત્યારે સ્વામીએ તેમને કાશી જઈને સંન્યાસ લેવાની આજ્ઞા કરી ત્યારે તેઓ કાશીમાં ગોમઠ આશ્રમમાં દંડી સંન્યાસી પાસે સંન્યાસ દીક્ષા લીધેલી. તેઓ સંપ્રદાયમાં દંડી દેવાનંદ સ્વામી તરીકે પ્રસિદ્ધ હતા. તેમણે અનેક મુમુક્ષુઓને શ્રીહરિના આશ્રિત કરેલા.
જ્યારે શ્રીહરિ અમદાવાદ પેશ્વાને મળવા તેમના કિલ્લામાં ગયા ત્યારે પેશ્વાએ શ્રીહરિને તેલનાં ટાંકામાં ડૂબાડી દેવાનું કાવતરું કરેલું અને મહારાજે કાવતરું ખુલ્લું કરતાં દેવાનંદ સ્વામી અમદાવાદને ડટ્ટન સો પટ્ટન કરવા તૈયાર થયા ત્યારે મહારાજે તેમને તેમ કરતા રોક્યા હતા.
Shripāt Devānand Swāmi
Paramhansas
There were many paramhansas by the name of Devānand Swāmi according to ‘Nandmālā’ written by Manjukeshānand Swāmi. Shripāt Devānand Swāmi came from a brāhmin family of Vadnagar. He came to Rāmānand Swāmi to obtain dikshā but Rāmānand Swāmi told him to go to Kāshi and become a sannyāsi. He went to the Gomath āshram and became a sannyāsi from a dandi sannyāsi. He became known as Dandi Devānand Swāmi from henceforth. He brought many aspirants to Shriji Maharaj’s refuge.
When Shriji Maharaj went to the fort of the Peshwa of Amdāvād to meet him, Maharaj exposed the Peshwa’s plot to drown him in a tank of scorching oil. Devānand Swāmi was ready to destroy and bury Amdāvād. Maharaj stopped him from doing so.
