દ્રૌપદી
શાસ્ત્રોમાં આવતાં પાત્રો
દ્રૌપદી દ્રુપદ રાજાની પુત્રી હતાં. તે દ્રુપદ રાજાના યજ્ઞ સમયે અગ્નિમાંથી પ્રગટ થયાં હતાં. તેને પાંચાલી, યાજ્ઞસેની, કૃષ્ણા પણ કહે છે. સ્વયંવરમાં અર્જુને મત્સ્યવેધ કરતાં દ્રૌપદીએ તેને વરમાળા પહેરાવી. કુંતીમાતાના શબ્દોનું માન રાખવા પાંચેય પાંડવો તેમને પરણ્યા. દ્યૂતમાં કપટથી કૌરવોએ પાંડવોને હરાવ્યા અને ભરસભામાં દુઃશાસને દ્રૌપદીના કેશ પકડી ઘસડી તેની લાજ લેવાનો પ્રયત્ન કરતાં શ્રીકૃષ્ણે વસ્ત્ર પૂર્યાં અને તેમની રક્ષા કરી. પાંડવો સાથે ચૌદ વર્ષ વનવાસ અને એક વર્ષ અજ્ઞાતવાસ ભોગવ્યો. તે પરમપવિત્ર, સદ્ગુણી અને ક્ષમાશીલ હતાં. અશ્વત્થામાએ પોતાના પાંચ પુત્રોને મારી નાંખ્યા છતાં પણ તેમણે તેને જીવતદાન આપ્યું. ભારતની મહાન સન્નારીઓમાં તેમનું નામ મોખરે છે. દ્રૌપદીનું પાંચ સતીમાં સ્થાન છે.

Draupadi was the daughter of King Drupad, king of Pānchāl. She was born from the sacrificial fire of the yagna Drupad performed. She is also known as Pānchāli, Yāgnaseni, and Krushnā. Arjun won her hand in marriage during the contest of shooting the eye of the fish arranged by King Drupad. However, when they brought her home, the five brothers told their mother Kuntā they brought an ‘item’ home. Without looking, Kuntāji said to share it among the five of them. Krishna told the five brothers all five will have to marry Draupadi as according to Kuntāji’s words.
When the five Pāndavas gambled with the Kauravs and lost, Yudhishthir also placed Draupadi as a wager and lost her. Duhshāsan dragger her by her hair and brought her in the court. They tried to humiliate her by removing her clothes; however, Krishna miraculously replenished her saris, tiring Duhshāsan and saving her from being humiliated in the court. She readily accepted 14 years of banishment to the forest and 1 year of hiding during banishment.
She was chaste, virtuous, and forgiving. When Ashwatthāmā killed her five sons, she let him free. Of the great women in the history of Bharat, she is among the foremost. She is also among the five satis.
