Gadhada I-6: One with Wisdom and One without Wisdom

Nirupan

August 5, 1963. On the day of Raksha-bandhan in Mumbai, Yogiji Maharaj said, “When one perceives their own faults every day, such as ‘I woke up late,’ then others’ faults will not come into view. We will only perceive their virtues…

“When [Bhagwan or Sant] speaks harshly to one, [Maharaj] says to oppose them, correct? They may scold even without a mistake – one should believe that we may make that mistake in the future. Today, no one scolds anyone. We have ghee and bananas. (We have all the conveniences.) We should perceive virtues whether a senior or minor scolds us. If we argue back, we will regret it.

“Harsh words mean extremely harsh, causing one’s hair to burn (i.e. difficult to tolerate). Read Gadhada II-37. Maharaj himself says, ‘He [one who possesses gnān] accepts the words for his own benefit.’ One who does not become hurt by harsh words ranks first place. One who feels hurt ranks second place. We do not perceive anyone’s faults so we are at peace. Greatness is not from sitting on a cushioned seat.

“An unwise (aviveki) person, one who see faults are in Satsang; they do not run away. But they decline gradually. When the Motā-Purush reads the Vachanamrut and we believe, ‘I understand this’, that is egotism of one’s virtue. One should become courageous, become a servant of servants and forsake egotism of one’s virtues.”

[Brahmaswarup Yogiji Maharaj: 3/515]
