Gadhada II-59: Ultimate Liberation

Nirupan

July 15, 1956, Gondal. In the morning, Yogiji Mahārāj had Vachanāmrut Gadhadā II-59 read and said, “What was said? What is the main point? Only God and his Sant are redemptive - not wealth, women and children.

“Today, ārti of Shiva, Brahmā and Hanumān is performed in every village. Who is above all of them? The Sant. Some people in the sampradāy criticize us saying a Sadhu’s murti cannot be installed. What does Shriji Mahārāj say in favor of the Sant? The Sant is above the likes of Brahmā and other deities. If we understand his greatness, would we perform his service or not? We have attained the Sant of God. What does attainment mean? That we have attained the manifest form.

“The manifest form of God that we have attained is the most redemptive of all. There is no one that is more redemptive than him. Only one with great merits attain service of the Sant.

“What does service mean? Bathing him, feeding him, preparing his meals, washing his utensils, collecting flowers for him, offering him garlands - all of these types of service - even Shankar, Brahmā, etc. cannot attain. Others have no chance of this service. We have attained this service due to our great merits from past births.

“There are many children in Rājkot; however do any of them come here? They freely roam and play with a ball and bat. No one considers coming closer. That we come here is because of our great merits accumulated in past lives.”

[Brahmaswarup Yogiji Mahārāj: 2/87]

Yogiji Mahārāj said, “Which actions of ours do you perceive as human-like? If I desire, I can sleep on the floor and my body would not ache. I would bathe with cold water. I would not eat. I would not allow my arms and legs to be massaged, and yet nothing would happen. Hence, we might show body-conscious traits, but one should not believe them as such. If we did not show this, how would you have an opportunity to serve?

“As per Vachanāmrut Gadhadā II-7 and Gadhadā II-59, only by performing service will one progress. Therefore, I offer you the opportunity to massage my arms and legs, to bathe me, and to cook my food. Otherwise if will sit idly, you will never progress. If you wish, I will not ask you to perform any service. I would behave in divinity. But one cannot excel without performing service. Do you all want to see a blaze of light? If so, I will ask Swāmi (Shāstriji Mahārāj) to show you a blaze of light. He will show it. But then you will become sakām (have desires to see such things). Hence, one should desire the spiritual state of knowledge.”

[Yogi Vāni: 10/115]

Yogji Mahārāj said, “If one desires to please the Motā-Purush, one should undertake the most menial of service. Ours is the supreme attainment. As per Vachanāmrut Gadhadā II-59, there should be a mad rush of people wanting to serve. However, we are like ‘Mele Māvjibhāi’ - trying to become Māvjibhāi on our own - we assume ourselves to be great. If one attempts to become a satpurush, one will be thrown into jail. Only one who has received the stamp of the Satpurush is the true Māvjibhāi - i.e. the real Satpurush. The Gunātit Sant of God is the only true Satpurush.”

This story is narrated by Yogiji Mahārāj as follows: In Dhrāgadhrā, there was one goldsmith named Māvjibhāi who had a name similar to the diwān. There was no electricity back then. The goldsmith went to discharge his bowels daily in the early morning darkness, near the compound of guards. The guards ask him who is there. The goldsmith said, ‘Māvjibhāi.’ The guards became alert thinking if it is the diwān he’ll punish us; let’s not ask further.

“This happened for 15 days before the guards started to doubt: why does the diwān come here when his bungalow has bathrooms and toilets?

“The next day, when Māvjibhāi arrived, the guard shouted, ‘Who is there?’ Māvjibhāi said, ‘Māvjibhāi.’ The guard went closer with a lantern and saw the goldsmith instead of the diwān. He immediately cuffed him and asked, ‘Who calls you Māvjibhāi?’ ‘My father, my mother, my wife, all call me Māvjibhāi.’ The guard says, ‘How does the government benefit from that?’ And locked him in a jail.

“One cannot become Māvjibhāi (diwān) on their own if a few people call you Māvjibhāi. If one tried to become a Satpurush on their own, one will go to jail...” (Brahamswarup Yogiji Maharaj - Part 2)

[Yogi Vāni: 18/12]

Explaining Vachanāmrut Gadhadā II-59, Pramukh Swāmi Mahārāj said, “What is ultimate liberation? The attainment of God or his Sant. That Sant is greater than Bhav, Brahmā, etc. Is a Sant one who flies in the air? Birds fly in the air. That is not greatness. One should serve the Sant having recognized him and thoroughly understanding his greatness. Recognizing the Sant thoroughly and speaking to others so they can also recognize him is our service.”

[Sanjivani: 1/84]
