Gadhada II-13: Divine Light

Prasang

Prasang 1

Samvat 1953, Junagadh. Shāstriji Mahārāj once asked Bhagatji Mahārāj, “The darshan of a Brahmaswarup Sant is equivalent to the darshan of Bhagwān – such is stated in the Vachanāmrut many times; therefore, why is it necessary to achieve a state of ātmā-realization and experience Bhagwān in one’s heart if one has attained the darshan of a Brahmaswarup Sant?”

Hearing this question, Bhagatji simply gave Shāstriji Mahārāj a compassionate look for a few minutes. He then said, “Sadhurām, the external darshan of the Sant is the fruit of one’s spiritual endeavors from countless births. However, to experience that [external] murti into one’s heart constantly is an elevated state. Shriji Mahārāj has told senior among the sādhu-muktas, ‘When the inclination of the indriyas and antahkaran constantly remains withdrawn in one’s heart, one sees Bhagwān’s murti within the radiant light.’ In this way, when the inclination of the indriyas are retracted and remain focused on Bhagwān’s murti, that should be known as having achieved an elevated state.

“Shriji Mahārāj has explained in this Vachanāmrut [Gadhadā II-13], ‘In fact, you also see this form of Bhagwān, but you do not fully comprehend it.’ So do not think that, since you have seen the [external] form, you have understood it thoroughly. When you see that form completely in your heart, the tendency of the indriyas to remain on external objects will terminate and instead will remain constantly within. That is known as the state of sākshātkār. Muktānand Swāmi wrote: ‘Brahma thai Parabrahmane jue te jāne re’ – One who sees Parabrahma having identified one’s form as Brahma knows Parabrahma.

“In this way, one who sees the [external] manifest form of Bhagwān [internally] within one’s heart knows Bhagwān thoroughly. Therefore, either in this very physical body or after one leaves the physical body, the only option is to achieve this state. Krupānand Swāmi, Swarupānand Swāmi, and Nityānand Swāmi, etc. had achieved that state.”

Then, Bhagatji Mahārāj added, “Among those who debate over scriptures or the pundits who study them, only a few can understand this. Others have no understanding in this matter. Therefore, for us, we should follow the path of the great. Having faith in the words of the Motā-Purush is the greatest means to achieving sākshātkār.” Bhagatji Mahārāj left for his residence after answering Shāstriji Mahārāj’s question.

Prasang 2

Gunātitānand Swāmi said, “Mahārāj told Gopālānand Swāmi in his dream, ‘If you do not spread the knowledge that I am Purushottam [i.e. that he is distinct from the other avatārs and is sarvopari], then I will keep you in the current body for one thousand years.’” Then Swāmi said, “Mahārāj had also told me [that he is sarvopari], I realized it from [reading] Mahārāj’s old documents, and knew it even before that. When I openly spoke in sabhā, the sadhus questioned, ‘Who told you this?’ I replied, “Swāminārāyan told me. Who else will tell me?’ Mahārāj has said this in Gadhada II-9, Gadhada III-38, Gadhada II-13, Loya-14, etc.”
