Loya-17: Reverence and Condemnation
Summary
- One who believes one’s self to be the body and does not have an intense aversion for the panchvishays, even if he previously revered God, would spite a sādhu if he were to denounce his egotism or other swabhāvs. Such a person would ultimately spite God as well and fall from satsang.
- Means to eradicate consciousness that one’s self is the body and develop an aversion for the panchvishays:
- Becoming indifferent to the body.
- Firm realization that one’s self is the ātmā.
- Vairagya toward the panchvishays.
- Absolute faith in God coupled with the knowledge of His greatness.
- A person who has an aversion toward the panchvishays would become troubled when he receives luxurious objects.
- Means to developing an aversion toward the panchvishays: understanding God’s greatness, ātmā-realization, and vairāgya.
- God’s greatness:
- It is God who is the creator, sustainer and destroyer of the world.
- The bliss of God is the highest bliss in comparison to all other bliss.
- If one understands God’s greatness this way [described in 4a and 4b], then no object in the world will draw him away from the holy feet of God.
- If one has realized the greatness of the Sant:
- He would behave as a servant of a servant.
- His foundation in satsang remains firm.
- Even if the Sant scorns him, he does not become upset or hurt.
- Even if the Sant beats him with shoes [mistreats him], he considers it his great fortune but does not perceive a fault in the Sant.
