Gadhada I-14: “Ante Yā Matihi Sā Gatihi”

Summary

6. A true renunciant is one who, after renouncing worldly life, has no attachment to it.
7. A householder who is disinterested in worldly life is better than a renunciant who has desires for worldly life if:

1. The householder observes the dharmas prescribed for a householder.
2. He understands that the profound association of the Sant that he has attained is like a magnificent chintāmani and a kalpavruksh.
3. He understands that his wealth, property, sons and daughters are all merely like a dream.
4. He remains undeterred amidst any type of adversity that may come his way.

8. One who has attained the manifest form of God, even if he suffers an untimely death, will be liberated; whereas, a sinner may die while walking and talking but he will not be liberated.
9. ‘Ante Yā Matihi Sā Gatihi |’ means “The outcome at the time of death is determined by the present state of the mind.”
10. A servant of God will certainly be liberated but those who have the darshan of him will also be liberated.
11. The characteristics of one who is a servant of God:

1. Believes the physical body is asatya (false) and the ātmā is satya (permanent, eternal).
2. He harbours no desires to indulge in the objects that are intended for his Master.
3. He never behaves contrary to the wishes of his Master.
